Many exciting things are happening in the gym at Haynesfield and I wanted to keep you informed on some things we have completed, as well as some upcoming activities we are doing in physical education class. So far this school year we have worked on soccer, volleyball, and jump rope units. We have also worked on chasing and fleeing games and played some throwing and catching games along the way.
This week in grades 2-5 we will begin physical fitness testing. We have five physical tests that we record twice a year for four years to help monitor progress toward healthy physical fitness levels. This week students will complete sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach, and a shuttle run. We conclude physical fitness testing next week with the pacer test.
Grades K and 1 will start a lesson on throwing and catching. Focus will be placed on catching objects (tennis balls, dodgeballs) with the hands, as well as throwing with proper technique and velocity.
In the upcoming weeks all grades will transition into a tennis unit and conclude with a basketball unit before Christmas break.
