Welcome Back!
I hope you had a restful and warm extended break! We’re excited to welcome back all of our students and staff.
Here are a couple of updates about our building:
**Hills Hall is now open!** This new space includes an open meeting area, a conference room, office space, and two focus rooms. Students are welcome to use the space when accompanied by a staff member.
**Drop-off and pick-up procedures** remain the same, but the Delmar Loop door (17) will now be open from 8:20 am to 8:45 am. This will remain in place until the sidewalks are safe to walk on.
Finally, a huge shoutout to **Ms. Jackson**, our lead custodian, and the entire SMSD Operations and Management team for their hard work in preparing the building, parking lots, and sidewalks for the start of the second semester. We've had a lot of snow, and they've been working diligently to get everything ready. Thank you all!
Looking forward to a great start to the semester!

#GiveMe20
On Thursday, January 16th our 8th graders will be participating in an activity focused on mental health and suicide prevention. The GiveMe20 program was started by two local moms who lost their teen children to suicide and now they are working to make a difference in how we view and talk about mental health. The 8th graders will hear directly from the moms and then create “life boxes” to keep with them during hard times as they move on to high school and beyond. We’re looking forward to an impactful activity for our students. To opt your student out of participating, please email nicolenelson@smsd.org.

Report Cards Posted
Second quarter report cards are now posted in Skyward. They can be found under the “Grade Cards & Academic Awards” tab on the left-hand side of Family/Student access.
If your child made the Honor Roll you will also find that designation listed there. Students who received all A’s for 1st quarter qualify for the Principal’s Honor Roll. Students who received A’s and B’s qualify for regular Honor Roll. If you would like a printed honor roll certificate, please email erinnvogts@smsd.org with your request.
Academic Learning Lab
There will be no Academic Learning Lab (A.L.L.) for the week of January 13th. A.L.L. will resume the week of January 22nd.
Please let Jennifer Gorniak know if you have any questions. Thank you!
iReady Testing Reminder
We will be continuing and completing the iReady Diagnostic in Math classes the week of January 13th.
Remember, this serves as a normative assessment and helps us identify how students are progressing through the Math curriculum. Please make sure your student is well rested and has a good breakfast so they can be successful on the iReady Diagnostic.
Thank you and please let Mrs. Gorniak know if you have any questions!
