December 16th
December Greetings! It is hard to believe that we are in our final week of school for 2024, and quickly approaching the halfway point of our school year. Our students have been hard at work as we close out this year, with many exciting field trips and classroom projects happening across grade levels.
This week we have our 5th grade concert and family literacy night. By the end of the school year, each grade level will celebrate their students’ learning in music with music performances. A special thank you to Ms. Thompson and Mr. Grasso for their hard work in preparing our fifth graders for their special night.
A big focus for our school this year is reducing the number of students who are absent 10% or more of the school year, which the state designates as “chronic absenteeism.” Last year, we had 15% of our students who met this threshold (the Virginia Department of Education does not distinguish between excused or unexcused absences). This year, our numbers have greatly improved and we would like to see this trend continue! Thank you for getting your students to school each day, on time.
Finally, we would like to wish our MVES community a Happy Holiday Season and restful winter break. We are extremely grateful for the support of this community, and for your trust in us with your children.
