Incoming Kindergarten Information
Deep Wood Elementary 2024-2025
Dear Kindergarten Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! If you are new to the Deep Wood community, welcome! I look forward to working with you and your family over the next 6 years! Please stop by and see me sometime when you’re on campus.
This is to inform you about the process we follow for our incoming kindergartners as we open the school year for your student. Your child will have the opportunity to work with all three kinder teachers for the first eight days of school in what we call Dino Discovery Days. The dates are August 13th - 22nd. During these days our kindergarten teachers will be team teaching and working together to get to know and support all of our new Dinos. Your student will work in a variety of settings with each teacher. Dino Discovery Days will allow teachers and support staff to observe student interactions and facilitate introductory academic and social/emotional learning. This will provide the larger team (teachers, counselors, interventionists, administrators) with imperative information that will help make the best decisions about class placement and help us build well-balanced classrooms.
During Dino Discovery Days, all students will report to the library at the beginning of the day. Doors open at 7:20 AM. At the end of Dino Discovery Days, you are invited to a special ceremony for our kindergartners that will be held on Thursday, August 22nd at 2:00 PM. We will meet in the cafeteria for a brief celebration. Afterward, you will have an opportunity to go to your student’s assigned room, see where they will be learning and growing for the remainder of the year, and take pictures! All kindergartners will report to their new classroom on Friday morning! Please remember to send a lunch with your student the first two weeks of school. This way students can concentrate on learning the systems and procedures of going to the cafeteria, opening their containers, and cafeteria expectations. After the first two weeks, they can buy their lunch from four choices with one choice being a vegetarian. They can purchase treats only on Fridays.
Important dates to know:
Friday, August 2nd - PTA Welcome Back Picnic Social @ 5:30 at Deep Wood
Thursday, August 8th - Welcome Walk 5:00-7:30
If you are within our Deep Wood attendance zone, your child will be visited by one of the three kindergarten teachers. Teachers can't stay long because they are meeting other kindergarten friends. If your family will not be home that evening or if you will be at a different address, please click here and complete the form.
Friday, August 9th - Dino Pop-n-Drop 2:30-4:00
Kinder students are invited to come to the library to drop off supplies and meet all three teachers. You will have an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom on August 22nd after our celebration.
Thursday, August 13 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Meet in the Library at 7:20 AM to check in and receive your name tag. You will also want to indicate how your child is getting home when school is dismissed. Parents will get to say goodbye in the library and then are invited to the Boo Hoo / Yahoo breakfast sponsored by our PTA.
Please let me know if you have any questions about Dino Discovery Days or our back to school events. I can be reached at 512-464-4400 or at reba_mussey@roundrockisd.org. We are excited to meet our new Dinos!
Sincerely,
Reba Mussey, Principal
DEEP WOOD ELEMENTARY PARENT INPUT FORM 2024-25
As we begin to make plans for the 2024-25 school year, you are invited to provide input as to how we can best meet your child’s needs at Deep Wood Elementary. Your input is valuable as class placement decisions are made.
If you have already completed this form, you do not have to resubmit it. If you have not had an opportunity to, please complete this form by August 9, 2024. The information you provide, along with input from school staff members, will assist us in placing your child appropriately. Many variables contribute to the successful placement of children into classes; therefore, requests for specific teachers will not be honored.
As always, thank you for supporting Deep Wood.
