Lunch Visitors
Parents may begin eating lunch with their students on September 3rd. We will have lunch visitors on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS only. Visitors must sign in and get a tag in the front office. Any person who may have lunch with your child needs to be listed in Skyward as an emergency contact and have a photo ID with them. We will not allow persons who are not listed and approved by you to enter the cafeteria. We are limiting lunch visitors to one person per student due to a lack of seating.
Please do not send food deliveries via Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. This is a district policy.
Attendance
We have had a lot of students absent and checked out early this week. Please remember that our students are learning all day. Every minute we have with our students is precious. If your student has an appointment, we ask that you try to make those after school if possible. We appreciate you!
Start of School Reminders
- Students may not wear cross body bags or purses in school. Those need to be in backpacks.
- Lunches can be dropped off before 10:00AM only. After 10:00AM students will have to get a tray.
- Complete your Criminal History Background Check so you are able to attend school events and field trips with your student. A new background check must be completed each school year. https://www.dpisd.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1561595&type=d&pREC_ID=1689770
- Update emergency contacts in Skywards, please ensure there is at least one emergency contact in addition to the student’s parents. Anyone that may have lunch with your student throughout the year, MUST be listed as an emergency contact.
- Any student who will be riding a DPISD bus to school and/or home must be registered with transportation. https://www.dpisd.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1570743&type=d&pREC_ID=2053389
DWJH Walkers
Students who qualify to be a junior high walker:
1. Students who have a parent or relative who works at DWJH.
2. Students who have siblings at DWJH that WALK them home after school can walk to the junior high after school.
Parents may not wait in vehicles at DWJH to pick up their elementary students. Those students need to be a car rider and be picked up at DWE. Our car line goes until 3:15, so parents can pick up their elementary students before going to the junior high.
We have sent home a form for parents to fill out to be junior high walkers, if those are not turned in, your student may not walk to the junior high. If you have questions about this, please call the front office.
Walkers
Students should not be walking to cars to be picked up. Students are crossing the street by themselves and not being responsible for their safety. Please pick your student up in the car line if you are having them walk to your vehicle.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
If you are dropping your student off in the front in the morning, please have them go ahead and exit the vehicle if you are next to the signs 1-4 on the porch. If students get out on their own, it helps the line move faster. Thank you!
Students who arrive after 7:40AM are tardy and need to enter through the front and be signed in at the office.
You may email changes to dwetransportation@dpisd.org. If you have to make a change during the school day, please submit changes to the front office only by 1:00 pm., allowing us time to get the message delivered to the student and teacher before dismissal. Verbal changes will not be accepted.
Dress Code & Electronics Reminder
Students need to wear tennis shoes/rubber soled shoes that won't slip off every day to be safe at recess and in the gym. (THANK YOU, PARENTS! We have seen most of our students in tennis shoes this week!)
- Crocs may not be worn at school - they are not safe for our students in PE & recess
- Shorts, skirts must fall between the fingertip and knee.
- Spaghetti straps are not acceptable for school.
- Pants may not have holes that expose skin above the top of the knee.
Students who bring electronic devices (Cell phones and watches) have two (2) options:
- Leave the electronic device turned off in his/her backpack. Devices should NOT be kept in purses or pockets.
- Turn the electronic device in each morning to the homeroom teacher for safe keeping and retrieve each afternoon. It is the responsibility of the student to remember to get the device from his/her teacher.
Failure to comply with the choices above will result in the loss of the electronic device and necessitate parents coming to the school to retrieve the device.
