Dear PK8 Families,

We are almost to the end of the 1st semester. This week will be a flurry of end of semester activities as students complete their AR reading goals, take their end of semester assessments, prepare for the winter concert, and celebrate being a PK8 Eagle with lots of fun activities. Please do your best to make sure your student is present in class every day! Enjoy this last festive week before vacation!

Don't forget to send in your bake sale items on Wednesday morning!

On Friday, December 20th, our 1st-8th grade students will be watching holiday movies during the afternoon. The movies we are watching are rated PG. If you would prefer your student not watch the movie, please contact the front office.

1st-5th Grade will watch Despicable Me 4 in the Commons

Gru, Lucy, Margo, Edith, and Agnes welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run.

6th-8th Grade will watch Elf in the Small Gym

Raised as an oversized elf, Buddy travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn't know he exists and is in desperate need of some Christmas spirit.

Spirit week is this week! Come with your best outfit for each day!!

Monday - Ugly Sweater or Crazy Shirt and Socks Day

Tuesday - Mix and Match or Backwards Day

Wednesday - Holiday (Red and Green) Day

Thursday - Twin Day and Anything but a Backpack Day (bring your supplies to school in anything but a backpack)

Friday - Minion or Pajama Day

It is time again for our annual bake sale, taking place after the Holiday Program! Families are asked to bring a baked item for the sale. Just like for the Back-to-School BBQ, we are asking families to donate items by their last name. Here’s the list:

Last name A-D: Cookies, jams, or jellies, salsas.

Last name E-H: Pies or cakes

Last name I-M: Quick bread, sweet rolls, etc

Last name N-R: Fudge, coated popcorn/pretzels, etc.

Last name S-Z: Dessert bars, cupcakes, brownies, muffins.

If you have a favorite family holiday recipe, please feel free to bring that instead of the items listed above. Please drop off your items at school on Wednesday, December 18th before the end of the day.

All proceeds go to the Paonia Parents’ Organization (PPO)! The PPO supports the purchasing of playground equipment, student rewards (such as eagle gear, plaques, etc.), student field trips, and teacher supplies and appreciation gifts!

We will be taking all lost and found items that are still at school after Tuesday to a clothing donation location. Please check the lost and found before the end of the day on Tuesday if you think you, or your child, are missing any items.

Our SPED Department is a holding their annual Christmas Cookie Jar Fundraiser again this year. There are five varieties of cookies available: Cowboy Cookie, Treasure Chest, Sand Art, Friendship Brownie, and Chocolate Cookie. The cookie jars are $10 each. These make great gifts and the proceeds are used to fund our therapeutic horse back riding lessons. The order sheet is at the front office and orders are being taken through December 20th.

Our shop class is raising funds by promoting a fun winter vacation activity. Purchase a glider build kit from the school between December 18th-20th, build your glider over vacation, fly your glider during the January 10th school assembly. Glider kits will be available to purchase at the Winter Concert and at the office at the end of next week. See the flier below, or check in with Mr. Hannon for more information.

Holiday Program Basket Raffle

During the Holiday Program we will be selling raffle tickets for our annual basket raffle. This year we have four baskets to raffle including a North Fork Miners basket, an Outdoor Goodies basket, Baking Bonanza Basket, and a Self Care basket.

Friday Teacher Snack Sign-Ups

Parents, our PPO organizes a snack for school staff every Friday. Parents sign up and bring in treats for roughly 40 staff members on Friday mornings. There are still a few open dates in December. Please offer to help by signing up for one of the available Fridays at this link:

Paonia K-8 School is looking for a 4-hour kitchen staff employee as well as bus drivers. These part time positions may be combined for more hours and benefits. If you are interested, please apply at deltaschools.com, or contact Mr. Cox directly.

Do you want to help support our elementary age girls build confidence, make new friends, and be physically active? Our PK8 Girls on the Run team is looking for one or two additional Coaches or Happy Pacers (running buddies). Girls on the Run is for girls in 3rd-5th grades. We will start practices in March and we will end our season with a final 5K in May. This is a super fun way to connect with our students and see them grow! If you are interested in volunteering, or want more information, please contact Ms. Jalan at school.
