Instructional Coaching for Student Achievement Outcomes
The primary responsibility of instructional coaches is to improve classroom instruction and increase student achievement. Instructional Coaching in the Lansing School District has been designed to build teacher capacity while increasing student achievement outcomes. Instructional Coaches provide teachers with access to high quality instructional development; equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge to improve student achievement.
Instructional coaching is not limited to only new teachers to the profession.
What will students know, be able to do, or produce at the end of instruction?
Instructional Coach Support can look like the following:
- Model classroom instruction
- Collaboratively Plan Standards based lessons
- Support the use of teacher questioning practices to provide opportunities for students to dialogue.
- Support the use of teacher questioning practices to provide formative feedback to students to elongate the learning progression.
- Collaboratively develop learning maps (also called learning progressions") for standards based units.
