Message from the Coordinator
Winter Wellness
Ms. Geri Muller and I had the privilege to represent the Renaissance Charter Academy at the Winter Wellness Fair at the River Falls Public Library.
I had the opportunity to meet community members and share the great things our program offers to students, families, and the community.
Ms. Muller ~ RCA and Ms. Taylor Stevens ~ RFSD, were members of the "Empowering Student Well-Being: Insights from the Frontlines of School Mental Health" panel.
Wellness continues to be a topic of utmost importance to students and families. It gives me great joy to know the School District of River Falls supports programming and trainings in a variety of wellness topics.
Tracey Mortensen of Inspiring Actions supports RCA students and staff by offering yoga every Wednesday. Students appreciate her support and classes. Yoga relieves stress and helps our students and staff to clear their minds. We are grateful to Tracey for her commitment to the RCA and our students.
Allina Health Grant Recipients
We are pleased to announce the RCA is the recipient of $4,000 Allina Health Grant. These funds will be earmarked for vaping initiatives and programming. We are excited to have this partnership with Allina Health.
Ms. Muller also received a $1000 grant from Allina Health. These funds will be used in our Zen room.
As we wind down Semester 1, I would like to thank students, staff, parents, and community members for their fantastic support. So, come January 28, 2025 - we can say 1 down and 1 to go! We got this!

Updates and Information from the Student Services Team
Combat Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that occurs during certain seasons of the year, mostly in fall and winter. It is believed that the lack of daylight triggers a chemical change in the brain and can lead to depressive symptoms. If you think you or your student may be depressed, please see a healthcare provider for help.
Symptoms to look out for:
Loss of interest and pleasure; social withdrawal.
Irritability and feeling anxious
Feelings of guilt of hopelessness
Increased sleep paired with daytime fatigue
Trouble thinking clearly or focusing
Craving sweets or carbohydrates
Physical symptoms such as headaches
Ideas to Help Manage Symptoms:
Increase your exposure to natural light and/or a light therapy box
Eat balanced meals that incorporate vitamin D-rich foods like salmon, eggs, and mushrooms
Exercise for at least an hour per week
Connect with family and friends
Talk to a mental health professional

Junior Conferences
All juniors are required to participate in a junior conference with the school counselor. Conferences will be held through the rest of the month of January. Students will meet 1:1 with the counselor to discuss planning the rest of their high school academics, and what they plan to do after graduation. The mission of the RCA ensures that all students are prepared to leave our school with an individualized plan - junior conferencing supports that! If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Geri Muller - School Counselor at geri.muller@rfsd.k12.wi.
