Mini-THON Annual Event
NHS Mini-THON held our annual event last Friday. With many fun games and activities, our students were able to complete the challenge to stand, or 'dance' for 10 consecutive hours, in hopes that one day we will dance in celebration of a cure! With the help of students, staff, family members, and donations from supporting organizations, we were able to surpass our fundraising goal of $30,000! In total NHS's 2025 Mini-THON raised a total of $30,851.86!!
We want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone that helped make our event possible and those who have continued to support us through the year!

Paper Ball Run Challenge
The 8th grade Special Interest Program students recently completed a Paper Ball Run Challenge.
Materials for each of the five teams included up to 30 sheets of copy paper, tape, scissors, a ruler, a timer, and a ping-pong ball.
The students were tasked with creating a paper ball run with an entrance point at least 10in above the surface and an exit point at least 1in above the surface. The goal was for the ping-pong ball to move the SLOWEST through the structure without leaving the structure and without stopping for more than 10 seconds at any given point. Not only did the students explore such concepts as friction and slope, but they learned about both the benefits and challenges of collaboration.
The final score of the project was calculated as 4 x time (secs) - # sheets of paper utilized in construction.
The winning team was made up of Tyler Spahr, Tyler Nell, and Reuben Smith.
The first runner-up team included Connor Long, Macon Thomson, Ryder Miller, and Levi Pierce.

DES 3rd Graders Celebrate Dental Health Month
Third grade students at Dillsburg Elementary had the opportunity to celebrate Dental Health Month in February by participating in the Pennsylvania Dental Association's annual poster contest. This project required students to create a poster that promoted good dental health habits. Over 300 students across Pennsylvania participated in the contest. Connor Xenidis, in Ms. Kopac's class, created the 3rd place poster. He will receive $100 and a certificate from PA Dental. He will also be recognized at the school's monthly awards assembly. Way to go, Connor!

Inclement Weather School Closing and Delays for 2024/2025
When weather conditions dictate that unscheduled closings, delays, or early dismissals are in the best interest of student and staff safety, the District will use several communication channels to notify parents, students, and staff as quickly as possible. Notifications for each weather-related event will specify whether extracurricular activities including athletic games and practices will be canceled for the day.
Communication:
- Blackboard Alert Messaging System – Notification will be sent via automated phone calls and emails
- District Website – Information will be posted as an on-screen alert when you visit the District website at www.northernpolarbears.com
- Social Media – Information will be shared on the District’s Twitter feed @NorthernYorkSD
- Other – Details will also be reported to local radio and television stations
School Closing Directions:
- For the first winter-weather closing, students and staff will have a “traditional snow day” – that is, there will be no instruction and all students and staff will simply be off. This first snow day will not need to be made up by students.
- For the second and additional winter-weather closings, we will have virtual snow days – that is, instruction will take place at home and will be provided through remote learning. Each principal will be following up with families about what instructional delivery will look like on virtual snow days.
Wishing everyone a safe and fun winter season.
