A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We are excited to welcome you back to school! As we go through the month of August, our team is working tirelessly to ensure that all of our students and staff are able to be welcomed first to, belong at, and learn in, Franklin High School.
Sabers, I look forward to learning with you this year as we continue to make Franklin High School a better place to learn and part of a better community.
We have the chance to do this by preparing to be kind, engaged, respectful, and responsible every moment of every day. If we all strive to be a bit better every day, there is nothing we cannot and will not do.
Please enjoy these last weeks of summer and remember there is an entire school and community of adults here that believes in you. A community that believes in you and knows that when you are here, you will do things that you might not believe you are capable of doing.
I cannot wait to see all of you and maximize the moments we have.
With Saber Pride,
Mr. Vuolo

Jordan has served as the Director of Athletics and Activities since 2018, overseeing the department’s growth in student engagement and overall success across all activities and athletics programs, culminating in three straight years of historic conference, state, and national team accomplishments for the Saber Pride. Prior to his time as our AD, Jordan served FHS as an Associate Principal as well as serving two years as a Principal outside of the district.
Jordan is looking forward to continuing to expand his leadership skills with the new opportunity to serve as an Associate Principal while also working to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership within the athletics and activities department.
FBLA STUDENTS PLACE AT NATIONALS
Earlier in the spring, our Future Business Leaders of America program had students that qualified for the national competition. Advisor Lauren Zomboracz shared the attached photo of soon-to-be seniors Shamit Surana, Yuva Vijaykumar, Monish Bodapati, who placed 10th in the nation for their Digital Animation event. Manmeet Dhillon, a recently graduated senior, also placed 6th on her advertising test. The competition was held in Atlanta, GA from June 27th through 30th and would not have been possible without a very special contribution from the Franklin Educational Foundation which helped fund some of the expenses so the students could travel to this event. Congratulations to these students and to the program for being recognized at the national level!

IMPROVED ATTENDANCE COMMUNICATION 2023-24
As we enter the 2023-24 school year, we want to remind you of the attendance planning we have been working on and will continue to work on into this school year. This year, we worked across the district to better streamline our attendance codes. Our goal is to increase our communication with families around attendance. Recently, we created a district level task force to explore our current practices for communication and partnered with our office staff to make reporting of absences more consistent across all of our buildings while still following Board policy and state law.
One area that is important for parents/guardians to recognize is that it is the district’s responsibility (per state law) to notify parents when their child exceeds 10 days of excused absence. Commonly, these letters/notices from the district are perceived negatively or that a child or family may be “in trouble”, but please know that is not the case! We recognize that health needs, travel, emergencies, and other obligations will contribute to a family’s need to excuse their child from school on occasion. The notice from school that your child has exceeded 10 days of excused absence is a measure we follow to make sure families are informed of these absences. In most cases, this is a start of an ongoing partnership and conversation around making sure children are in school, every day, whenever possible. We know that regular attendance is a predictor of success for children during their school career.
This year, after 10 days of excused absence for any reason, parents/guardians can expect to receive a notification that your child has been out of school for 10 days. This notice will contain details about what will happen if excessive absences continue. We will share more details about what this looks like as we approach the start of the school year and what the family’s responsibility is in terms of a child’s attendance in school. We will continue to also notify families when a student has been unexcused for all or part of 5 days, as this is considered “Habitual Truancy.” Look for more information as we return to school.
