Berkley African American Parent Network Scholarship

Berkley Athletic Boosters Scholarships
Mr. Fadoir states that "Oliver represents the best of Berkley High! They have done incredible work in four different college level math classes at BHS and four additional math and computer science classes at Lawrence Tech. They did this while competing at the highest level in cross-country and track. They love to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with everyone."
Mrs. Blackwell states that "Maeve is a team player on the basketball court and soccer pitch, as well as in the classroom. She stands out as a cheerful leader, consistently bringing positivity and kindness to every situation. Her helpful nature and unwavering sunny disposition make her a joy to be around. I have thoroughly enjoyed having her as a student and wish her well at Kalamazoo College and beyond!"

Berkley Choir Boosters Scholarships
Berkley Choir Boosters (BCB) is an organization of parents and community members whose mission it is to promote, enhance, and support Berkley School District’s Choral Music Program, to enrich it with all possible support, and to raise funds for these purposes. BCB works closely with the choir directors of the Berkley School District to identify areas where BCB can help to enhance and strengthen our vocal music education programs.
BCB scholarships are provided annually to honor the memory of Mary Myers, a charter member of the Berkley Choir Boosters Board of Directors. Mary, a longtime resident of the Berkley School District, gave generously of her time to the Berkley High School choir program and its students and energized her fellow volunteers with her enthusiastic spirit. In addition, the Choir Boosters provides the Enduring Voice scholarship to a graduating senior who has overcome adversity during their high school years. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the directors. Congratulations to this year's recipient!

Mrs. Olsen states that "Meena is a superstar! She has the natural ability to handle challenges with poise and is incredibly efficient with her time and organization. Meena has demonstrated these skills as a student in my class, as a chemistry lab tech and as president of SNHS. She is a natural leader with a passion for science and I know she has an incredible future in store for her! I am so proud of Meena and so excited for this next chapter of her educational journey!"

Berkley Educational Secretaries Association Scholarship
Mrs. McNamara states that "I had Lynnsey as a student in my Spanish class when she was in 7th grade, and we have maintained a close bond ever since. She is so welcoming and fearless. As Lynnsey embarks on this exciting new chapter, I know she will continue to shine brightly and make a positive impact wherever she goes. While I will dearly miss her presence and the joy she brings, I am incredibly proud of her achievements and excited for the incredible future that lies ahead of her."
Mr. Cooper states that "One of the things that stand out about Mya Peacock is her positive vibe. In class, she kept a smile on her face and helped create a collaborative environment through her leadership and interactions with peers. Even in the most challenging situations, Mya was able to overcome them because she consistently maintained a positive mindset. Her overall approach not only helped her become a successful student, but will lead to her success as she moves on to the next stage of life."

Berkley Instrumental Boosters Scholarships
Their board and general membership meet monthly to discuss fundraising, awards, sponsorships and opportunities to support our award-winning music educators. BIB includes an all-volunteer board in addition to student representatives and music directors. Congratulations to this year's recipients!
Mr. Thomann states that "Alden is an asset. Mr. Otwell is dependable; his presence elevates the performance of those around him. Alden's quiet but intense nature makes him effective beyond his age, and his sense of humor accents his ability to connect with others. The band will miss Alden a lot!"

Berkley Junior Women's Club Scholarship
We are proud to announce that Mackenzie Dick is the recipient of the Berkley Junior Women's Club Scholarship. The Berkley Junior Women's Club is a community service organization that has been serving the Berkley community since 1985. They organize and run projects that benefit the city of Berkley (such as the annual Holiday Tree Lighting event at city hall, Daddy Daughter Dance, Breakfast with the Bunny and many more). Their fundraising events (Candy Cane Lane Craft Show, Mom to Mom Sale, Berkley Days events and Dream Cruise merchandise Sales) help them to raise monies to provide scholarships to Berkley High School Senior Girls who have donated their time and efforts to performing community service in Berkley during their educational years. Their goal in awarding these scholarships is to promote and recognize the outstanding community service achievements of girls graduating from Berkley High School, and encourage them to continue to offer their time and services to non-profit organizations in their future careers.
Mrs. Coleman states that "Mackenzie truly embodies sincerity, sensitivity, and deep reflection in everything she does. Her genuine nature and thoughtful approach to life are among her shining attributes. She is an authentic self-aware human that has been a pleasure to interact with. "

Berkley Mayor's Office Scholarship for Public Service
We are proud to announce that Isabella Gentry is the recipient of the Berkley Scholarship for Public Service. The City of Berkley is one of three communities within the Berkley School District. Berkley serves just over 15,000 residents by more than one hundred public servants. Berkley is often awarded titles such as "Best place to live," "Best place to start a family," and "Safest Community in Michigan." Our community wouldn't be able to boast any of these titles if not for the dedicated service of its elected and appointed officials, staff, and volunteers. The work they do have lasting impacts on the City of Berkley and its community of residents for decades to come.
For this reason, our Mayor and City Council established the Berkley Public Service Scholarship which is awarded each year to a student who is planning a career or has shown an interest in public service. This year's recipient is sure to change their community for the better as they dedicate themselves not strictly for personal gain but to the health, safety, and well-being of those around them. The City proudly proclaims values of being caring, innovative, active, and welcoming, and is honored to offer support to this future community leader.
Mr. Weingarden states that "Bella is a joy in class. She comes into AP Calc AB class daily with a smile, works hard, and is a great student. I know Bella will do great at U of M in the fall, and in her future endeavors."

Berkley Orchestra Association Scholarships
Mr. Breen states that "Emily is a problem solver that has talents that far exceed what I see in our AP Computer Science class. She is an accomplished musician who was in ‘the pit’ for “Legally Blonde.” Next year, Emily will accomplish great things at MSU!"
Mr. Weingarden states that "Elizabeth has done amazing this year in AP Calc AB. She participates often in class, and makes many valuable contributions to the class. I know we won’t find out AP exam results until early July, but I fully expect Elizabeth to get a “5”. She is just that good of a calculus student!"
Mr. Duffy states that "Beck is an outstanding student. He shows up every day with a positive attitude and leads by example. Through his choices, he consistently demonstrates to his peers that he is adaptable, collaborative, and deeply observant–all skills that will serve him well in college. I wish him all the best."
Mrs. Olsen states that "Ellie is the absolute best! She has an incredibly kind personality that is going to carry her so far in life. Ellie embraces challenges and is truly invested in her education. It has been an absolute honor to have Ellie as a student twice during her time at BHS and I am most definitely going to miss her next year. I know Ellie has a bright future and is going to make her mark on this world!"

Berkley Staff & Alumni Scholarship
Mrs. Ford states that "Logan Field embodies many of the beliefs and values of Berkley Schools. He is creative, innovative, hardworking and always respectful of staff and his peers. From starting a school podcast to participating in varsity sports, Logan gives 110% at anything he chooses to pursue. We are so proud of him!"
Mr. Hopkins states that "Jacob is the epitome of potential, with so much more in him than he even realizes. His easy stage presence and effortless comfort inhabiting a character within a dramatic or comedic work is mirrored in the person he is in real life. Always the first person in the room to support someone in the biggest or smallest of needs, Jacob brightens every room with his goofiness, innocence and unbounded kindness. Whether he trusts yet that he brings the greatness he does, his motives are always from a place of selflessness. Aside from being a giant of human (literally and figuratively), Jacob has talent and wisdom that comes from a true desire for information and the creation of art. I am incredibly proud to have been in Jacob’s life to witness the almost vertical trajectory of his abilities and maturity since he was in the sixth grade … when he was around the same height he is now! For Jacob Gonzales this is just the beginning!"

Ceil Glazer Memorial Scholarship
Ms. Flood states that "Paris is an attentive, thoughtful student who is actively engaged in her education. She has a huge personality and makes everyone around her feel welcome. We will miss Paris so much but I am confident she will accomplish amazing things. Congratulations!"

Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars Scholarships
Founded in 1990, Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars is a college access, success and scholarship program. We serve nearly 400 high school students annually across five Southeast Michigan Counties and over 550 program alumni who are pursuing post-secondary pathways across the country. Our program, Next Level Scholars, is designed to inspire and prepare students to succeed in post-secondary education.
The students receiving this scholarship joined our program their sophomore year. Each year, they participated in workshops and curriculum that breaks down the financial, academic and social-emotional barriers that many students face in pursuing their educational goals. Due to their hard work and commitment, each student has earned a scholarship from Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars. Congratulations!
Mr. Cooper states that "The words that immediately come to mind when I hear the name Jessica Anyanwu are reliable, precise, intelligent and kind. It is not often a teacher encounters such a well-rounded student who possesses a variety of strengths at such a high level. In Diversity Council, Jessica’s passion to serve the community was evident, as was her creativity, intelligence, and leadership when planning different ways to do it."
Mrs. Weiss states that "Tyann has a maturity and sophistication that not many graduating seniors possess. They will move forward with success and compassion as they build their journalism career. I am hopeful that they will tell the stories we don’t always get to hear. They will use their intelligence to bring light to others on their journeys."
Mrs. Francis states that "Cora is a joy! She brings light and curiosity into every classroom she enters. She is a lover of animals and shows exceptional care. Cora is also a talented artist. I can’t wait to see all that she becomes."
Mrs. Konwinski states that "Kya is a hard worker who balances a lot of life with any school work she might be doing. She is mature and personable and she brings kindness when she enters the room. She doesn’t stop striving to do even better than before - she holds herself to high standards and then accomplishes them."
Mrs. Vaughn states that "Shea embodies the concept of perseverance. She is determined, tenacious and persists through tough times, and does it all with a smile on her face and the best outfit in the room. I’m so proud of her growth over the last two years. "
Mrs. Olsen states that "Shamis is truly one of the most kind people and this quality has stood out strongly both years that I have had the pleasure of being her teacher. I admire Shamis work ethic, her ability to embrace challenges and her natural tendency to include others and make them feel welcome. I am confident that Shamis has such a bright future in store and I am so excited for her! "
Mrs. Tye states that "Mathew is a quiet and kind soul that is liked by all. He is respectful and hardworking and has been such a constant support in our BHS community."
Mrs. Flood states that "Courtney has been such a fun student to have in student leadership. She has a ton of fun ideas and always has a smile on her face. Always willing to jump in and lend a hand, Courtney is someone we can all depend on at any time. We will miss her!"
Mr. Weingarden states that "Tony is a wonderful person, and a great student. He always comes to AP Calc AB class with a smile, is interested in learning, and excels. His character is top notch. Daily he greets me with a hello when he comes into my room, and always says goodbye when he leaves. Trust me, for those teachers who haven’t had Tony for class, they have missed out!"

County Downs Women's National Farm & Garden Association Scholarship
We are proud to announce that Brooke Hayden is the recipient of the County Downs Women's National Farm & Garden Association Scholarships. This scholarship goes to a senior who is going on to study landscape design, botany or some form of Environmental Science after graduating from Berkley High School.
Mrs. Meinhart states that "Brooke has a heart of gold! I absolutely loved having her in class last year. She came to my 1st hour each day with a smile on her face. Her attitude and enthusiasm are infectious. She is simply a gem of a human and I will miss her terribly next year."

Dr. Margaret Jane Makulski Memorial Scholarship
Dr. “J” as she was known by the kids and many others was a wonder leader and person. She made a difference in the lives of many that were part of the Berkley Schools and elsewhere. She was a graduate of BHS, a teacher and counselor at Norup, an assistant principal at both Norup and BHS and the principal at Norup. After this, she spent thirteen years as principal of BHS where she was one of the first female high school principals in the history of Oakland County. These scholarships were established in her honor.
Mrs. Serrato states that "Emily is such an amazing person. It has been such a pleasure to have her in class. She is so talented and I can’t wait to see all of the things she accomplishes! She will do great in anything she chooses to pursue. It has been an honor to have her as a student as well as a friend."
Mrs. Blackwell states that "Bryce is a fierce competitor both in the pool and in life. She is driven, focused, and exhibits a remarkable level of maturity rarely seen in high school students. Bryce is also easy to talk to and a joy to know, making her an outstanding individual in every sense."

Friends of the Huntington Woods/Pleasant Ridge Library Scholarship
We are proud to announce that Eleanor Retish is the recipient of the Friends of the Huntington Woods/Pleasant Ridge Library Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who intends to pursue post-secondary education.
Mr. Johnson states that "Eleanor Retish is a very talented, dedicated, and resilient person. Eleanor has come a long way from the little karate student I met years ago. I know you will do well in life because of the determination you showed during your several belt tests and progression from rank to rank. You have proven time and time again that with a strong work ethic, time, patience, and perseverance can accomplish all things."

Huntington Bank Scholarships
We are proud to announce that Ian Burmeister, Austin Daugherty, Mariah Jones, Sophia Mauad Lima, Ava Long, Anniya McWhorter, Michael Onuoha, Jayla Pantoja, Jordan Rowan, Shamis Salih, Maya Sermo and Courtney Walker are the recipients of the Huntington Bank Scholarships. These scholarships were a collaboration between Huntington Bank and Berkley Schools. Mr. Gary Torgow, Huntington Bank Chairman of the Board of Directors is a Norup alumni and is known for his generous support of local communities. The scholarship requirements included, among other things, students who exemplified leadership, were involved in their school community and were planning on attending a college, university or trade school upon graduation.
Mrs. Olsen states that "Ian is all things amazing! He has a maturity, professionalism, kindness and respectful nature that radiates off of him on a daily basis. He is a true friend and highly regarded by his peers. I know Ian plans to pursue a career as a science teacher and I cannot think of a better person to be inspiring kids with science than Ian! Congratulations Ian!!!"
Mrs. Sarris states that "Austin is a natural leader. He is so hard working and is good at helping others. He has been such a help with our Unified sports! "
Mrs. McNamara states that "Though I only had Mariah in class for one year, her impact on me has been profound. She is gracious, determined, and full of happiness. Mariah never failed to make me laugh on a daily basis. These qualities will undoubtedly help her to continue to excel and make a positive impact in the next chapter of her life. I am so proud of her and I will miss her terribly next year!"
Mrs. Blackwell states that "Sophia is an inquisitive, kind, and intelligent individual. Her reflective and open-minded nature drives her continuous quest for improvement. It was a delight to have her in class, and I am confident she will be successful in all her endeavors."
Mrs. Ford states that "Ava Long is a thoughtful, hardworking student. She is a joy to have in class. I always enjoy reading Ava’s insightful writing and hearing what she has to say. We can always count on her to be a team player in our small group work. She will certainly excel at whatever she chooses to pursue in the future!"
Mrs. Blackwell states that "Anniya constantly pushes her limits, yet she maintains a light-hearted and approachable demeanor. Her fun-loving nature combined with her driven attitude makes her both inspiring and delightful to be around."
Mr. Weingarden states that "I have tremendous respect for Michael. He is a very kind and quiet student in math class. Michael has done great all year in AP Calc AB as he puts in a lot of effort and work, and comes in for help when need be. Those character traits that he has will help him going forward."
Mrs. Serrato states that "Jayla is such a sweet girl! It was so nice having her in class. She is so talented and it was amazing seeing her progress over the course of the semester. I wish her nothing but the best! She will do great things."
Mrs. Terbrack states that "A star both onstage and off, Jordan embodies resilience, dedication, and compassion. Her tireless work ethic, coupled with her unwavering kindness and sincerity, inspires everyone around her. Jordan’s ability to overcome big obstacles should serve as an inspiration to us all. It has been my absolute pleasure to get to know Jordan over these past few years, and her presence in my days will be truly missed. I have no doubt she will achieve everything she sets out to do and so much more!"
Mrs. Tye states that "There are not kind enough words in our language to describe Shamis. She is one of the most thoughtful, funny, smart and resilient students I have had the pleasure of working with. She can make conversation with anyone she meets both young and old, and has the ability to allow everyone around her to feel welcome."
Mrs. Tye states that "Maya has grown SO much over the past four years. She didn't let her downfalls stop her, and she was able to find a way for her to climb back up to the top. I could not be more proud of Maya, she is a wonderful human who I will miss greatly!"

Huntington Woods Men's Club Scholarships
We are proud to announce that Logan Field and Isabel Guerra are the recipients of the Huntington Woods Men's Club Scholarships.
The Huntington Woods Men's Club was formed in 1975 by 24 charter members as a community service organization serving the city of Huntington Woods, Michigan. Over the years, the Club has grown to over 100 members and has lived up to its charter. Members have volunteered countless time and energy in support of community service activities.
Through the Club's fundraising efforts, well over $2,500,000 has been raised and donated back to the city for special events and projects. The Club's Annual Service Auction each spring is one of the highlights of the year for the Club and the community.
The Club also serves a social role through monthly general membership meetings and various family and adult events throughout the year. These fun-filled events further strengthen the community spirit that the club seeks to promote.
The purpose of the Huntington Woods Men’s Club Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarship grants to individuals living in the City of Huntington Woods, Michigan and who are a graduating senior from high school, a student attending a college or university as undergraduate or graduate student, or a student attending a recognized trade school. Congratulations to this year's recipients!

She has been a part of the art classes for all four years and although naturally a quick learner in any art form, she always continues to push herself in learning new materials (from AP Art, to Ceramics, to Jewelry/Metals) . She is just a thoughtful and sweet student with a great personality…it has been a joy knowing her during her high school career."

Huntington Woods Women's League Scholarships
Mrs. Ford stated that "Tyann is a creative and thoughtful writer. They offer a unique perspective and I am constantly entertained by both their articles in the Spectator and their formal writing in AP LIT. They have a bright future in whatever field they choose. I can’t wait to see what they do next. "
Mr. Weingarden stated that "Sherry might come across as a quiet person, but she really is a star in the classroom. I had her for AP Calc AB last year, and she was definitely one of my top students. She works very hard, and did awesome all year. I know whatever career path Sherry chooses, she will be a successful person in the future!"
Mrs. Rathburn stated that "Always the happiest person in the room, Arianna has made herself a leader in my classroom, becoming 'Thrift Store Manager' and coming up with amazing ideas to try in Environmental Science. Not just an ideas person, Arianna works very hard to complete and turn in quality work, she is also helpful to others!"

Lily Earle Memorial Scholarship
We are proud to announce that Miracle Turner is the recipient of the Lily Earle Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in honor of Lily Earle, a former Berkley Bear and is awarded to a kind, hardworking student who shows kindness to all those around them.
Mrs. Tye states that "Miracle is the MOST thoughtful and hardworking student I have worked with at BHS. She is so responsive and has the wonderful ability to allow those around her to feel appreciated."

The McMillan-Klein Scholarship is awarded to a student of color who dedicates themselves to community service work and is a leader in various extracurricular activities. This scholarship hopes to help students pursue their educational goals and dreams. Congratulations to this year's recipient.
Mrs. Morris states that "Sharmel is truly one of a kind! I could go on and on about the remarkable qualities that she possesses, but a few that come to mind are inquisitive, driven, and thoughtful. She is mature beyond her years and is able to think about things in a logical and wise way. I always look forward to Sharmel stopping by my classroom just to say “hi” because her sunny disposition and witty personality never fail to bring a smile to my face. Northwestern is so lucky to be gaining a student (and person) like Sharmel!"

Pernick Family Scholarships
Mrs. Vaughn states that "Phoebe marches to the beat of her own drum and that’s what I love about her! Her curiosity and ability to critically assess ideas is unparalleled. She is not concerned with just “checking all of the boxes”, rather Phoebe cares about actually learning and engaging with new information. With this type of thinking (and the perfect bob), the possibilities for Phoebe are endless and I can’t wait to see what the future holds."
Mrs. Coburn states that "Mia is an amazing leader in and out of the AP Art & Student Leadership classrooms. She received a Gold Key award for her Scholastic Art & Writing portfolio and did very well in her submissions to the Art & Design AP board, two years in a row. Mia joined Student Leadership her senior year which is no easy task and absolutely rocked it. Additionally in her senior year she took on many rigorous classes and flourished in them all, all the while dedicating to the Be Drama theater and lighting crew. She is hardworking and dedicated no matter what endeavor she takes on, yet still humble, fun and understated throughout it all. "
Mr. Duffy states that "Oliver possesses that rare combination of skills: a capacity to imagine what has yet to be imagined and an ability to will it into existence. Our world is a better place with Oliver out there, doing their thing, bringing their passion, and seeking solutions to some of our most pressing issues. I wish them all the best as they continue their journey into college."
