I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children. I—along with my staff—will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing support systems to ensure they are met. We will maintain a supportive school culture through our Culture and Climate Committee, student assemblies and house meetings, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We will set high standards for teacher performance and continue to find ways to engage our surrounding community. It is our goal at West Bloomfield Middle School that all students achieve their highest potential.
Middle school is a vital bridge between elementary school and high school. It is also a period when young people, often for the first time in their lives, begin actively seeking a sense of purpose and place. It is our job to provide them with these opportunities, while also keeping them engaged, challenged and supported. Our children are gifts with limitless potential. Through the efforts of our entire school community, we can help them to develop their own unique skills and talents and prepare them for continued success far beyond their early adolescent years.
While we embrace the challenges of the future, we continue to cherish and celebrate the traditions of the past. We hope your visit to our website will give you a quick snapshot of life at our school. What are families saying about WBMS?
We appreciate our Spanish teacher, Dr. Manetta, for creating enriching content for our students, including a field trip to the D.I.A. Kids need exposure to different cultures, it makes them well-rounded and better equipped for the real world. Parent Juliet J.

WBMS students have a wealth of athletic and club opportunities
Numerous opportunities to participate in athletic and club opportunities enhance the learning environment. Our sports include: Football, Cross Country, Cheerleading, Basketball, Track and Field, Wrestling, Volleyball and Swimming. In these programs students have multiple opportunities to practice leadership and teamwork.
Clubs include traditional programs like student council and National Junior Honor Society, but also include new and innovative opportunities developed by teachers and staff.
In addition, students have co-curricular opportunities through our choir, orchestra, strings and musical theatre classes.
Counselors follow students throughout middle school
As important members of an educational team, West Bloomfield Middle School Counselors are available to all students in the areas of academic, personal, social, and career development. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work together with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive atmosphere whereby students can achieve optimal success. Counselors stay with students from sixth through eighth grade, truly getting to know what motivates students and how to inspire them.
In addition to counseling, there are numerous other social emotional supports including the new Zen Den. Students and staff led the creation of Zen Dens in the upper and lower blue houses of the middle school. What's a Zen Den? It's a place where students can refocus, recharge and center themselves so they can return to class ready to learn. Going to the Zen Den can be student requested or teacher suggested. Each Zen Den has calming lighting and sounds, comfortable seating, and multiple stations like breathing exercises or rest and mediation with step by step instructions. Data is being kept on what stations are most helpful and utilized, if students/staff have new ideas to incorporate, and our counselors and mental health staff will reach out to students to ensure they know about all the resources available at WBMS.
