Summer is winding down, and our congregational program year is beginning to ramp up! Often summer is a time that seems both slower, as the heat makes it hard to go full speed, and faster, as the endless waves of zucchini come in from gardens and the weather surprises us with a turn toward autumn. I hope this summer has offered you some moments of rest and renewal, in keeping with our collective theme for this sabbatical season. We’ll have an opportunity on Sunday to join members of the Sabbatical Committee to reflect together on renewal, for each of us and all of us together, following the service.
As we move toward September, keep an eye on our updates and announcements: many exciting things are coming together for fall. This is a different kind of renewal, a movement of renewing commitments or renewing curiosity and possibility by trying something new, meeting someone new, and seeing what happens. What might be calling to you this fall? Is there a new practice you’d like to cultivate, or an old one you’d like to return to? A particular way to bring your energy and talents to OUUC? A connection you’re open to making with someone who might become a new friend, or a relationship you’d like to revitalize? As the natural world begins to wind down into harvest and the sleep of winter, humans move into a season of creativity, learning, and nurturance. Come share what shape that is taking for you this year.
I hope you’ll join us this Sunday for our annual Backpack Blessing service, during which Rev. Sara and I will invite everyone into contemplation of the ways in which we renew ourselves by learning and growing, and together contribute to renewing our world. We know that every one of us is needed in these times, and that together we can do more than we can do alone. Let us keep on, once more, together.
