Principal Message
Hello Waubesa Families,
Thanks for all of your support and snack donations to help all students with Forward Exam testing! 5th grade finished last week, 3rd and 4th grade will finish testing this Wednesday, April 10. If your student was absent or didn’t complete a session when it was scheduled, they will have make-ups next week.
Our Family Night is coming soon on April 18 from 4:30-6:30 pm. Please review the Sign-Up Genius Link and consider signing up for any volunteer positions and/or make a donation for our activity stations.
On Monday, April 8, a partial solar eclipse will occur when about 87% of the sun will be covered by the moon. In our area, the partial eclipse will occur from 12:51-3:20 pm (resource). While this is a fun and exciting event, student safety is extremely important. No one should ever look directly at the sun during the partial eclipse, or any other time without protective eyewear. We do have some shorter recesses in the afternoon during the partial eclipse and will remind students to not look directly at the sun. If your students are not following the safety reminders, we’ll be moving recess to indoors. Cloudy conditions will eliminate the possibility of viewing the eclipse.
Our 5th graders will have the opportunity to view the eclipse between 1:55-2:10 as this event is largely connected to their science curriculum. The team has secured proper eyewear for every student that are ISO 12312-2 & CE Certified. Students in 3rd and 4th grade may have the opportunity to view the eclipse depending on the schoolwide schedule and what teachers have planned. If you are wanting your child to view the eclipse that afternoon, you are welcome to pick up your child for the afternoon by communicating with the front office just as you would any other day. Please speak with your child about the importance of being safe and not looking directly at the sun without appropriate eye protection.
Waubesa students will be practicing, along with other Wisconsin students, the statewide tornado drill this week. It is scheduled for April 11 at 1:45pm. Teachers will be prepping students before the drill. There is another statewide drill scheduled for 6:45 that night so you can talk about tornado safety as a family! Check the Wisconsin Emergency Management's website for more information. Click here for some tornado safety activities! A drill follow-up will come in next week's smore newsletter.
Thank you for your support.

Measles: Facts & Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The CDC has reported measles cases are currently occurring in multiple states – CDC Measles Cases and Outbreaks. The McFarland School District Health Services would like to take this opportunity to provide some information about measles and how to prevent it.
Measles is a viral infection that causes fever, cough, a rash, sore eyes, and can lead to serious complications. Measles spreads very easily, so it is important to protect against infection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent measles. DHS - Measles Fact Sheet
Two doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine provide the best protection against disease. These doses must be separated by at least 28 days. MMR vaccine is routinely recommended between 12-15 months and the second dose before entering school, at 4-6 years. Waivers to the school requirements are available for religious, health, and personal conviction reasons. However, in the event of an outbreak of measles students with waivers may be excluded from school until the outbreak is declared over.
It is important for you to check your child’s immunization records to make sure they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. You may check your child’s immunization record by logging on to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). You may also see your child's school immunization record on Infinite Campus > Health. Your local health department, family health care provider or online health MyChart may also have your child’s immunization record.
If you have specific questions for the MSD Health Services Department, please reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at peplins@mcfsd.org, (608)838-4679. Thank you
