Leadership Opportunity For Students
Do you wish your son or daughter took on more leadership at home, in school, or around the community? We are changing our model for LHS leadership class next year so that we can reach more students and have a bigger impact on the lives of our students and our school. These can be students that already have leadership qualities and are looking to refine and expand on them or students that need development as leaders for a role they will grow into.
To avoid scheduling conflicts we have moved leadership to a morning seminar one day per week before first hour. This will allow our students with a full
schedule to still participate if they want. For those that want more leadership
in their day, they will still be able to sign up for a leadership class during
their school day to supplement their leadership seminar in the morning. All
students enrolled in leadership will earn 1 elective credit, provided they meet
the requirements for the course.
If you think your student would be a good fit please encourage them to talk to
their counselor. Counselors can walk students through the different
requirements of the class and help them decide if they want to sign up. Our
enrollment deadline is February 25th.
Introducing the Rising Phoenix
We are excited to announce a new partnership between the MPSD and UWGB at Manitowoc, campus.
The Rising Phoenix program will offer the opportunity for 25 LHS Juniors (next year) to dually enroll at LHS and UWGB. The vision is that this cohort of students will attend most of their academic coursework at UWGB and leave Lincoln with not only a Lincoln diploma, but also an Associate’s Degree at no cost to them.
This model is the first of its kind here in our state system, and we would really like to thank our LHS Counseling team, Superintendent Mark Holzman, the Office of Student Learning, and the Board for their support of this great opportunity for our students, their families, and our community. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have about this program.
Interested current Sophomores should visit the site above and fill out an application.

The Bandana Project
If you see your son or daughter sporting a bright green bandana around their backpack/belongings, ask them about the meaning behind it! The LHS Mental Health Advocates initiated The Bandana Project, a nationwide program that advocates for those with mental health needs. This is a free, voluntary opportunity for students to support their peers. The Bandana Project initially started on college campuses and has spread to high schools throughout the United States. Check out UW-Madison's page for more information: https://www.namiuw.org/the-bandana-project.html

Miranda Feldman, a 2011 Lincoln graduate and FCCLA alum, came in to give pointers to Peyton Larsen about her FCCLA Interior Design STAR event project. Miranda competed in the same event when she was in high school, taking her project all the way to Nationals. Peyton will be competing on Feb. 17th at the FCCLA Regional Competition. Good luck Peyton!

School-to-Work Spotlight
We had a packed auditorium for Youth Apprenticeship Info Night last week! If you are interested in YA but weren't able to make it to Info Night, see Mrs. P in the Lincoln School-to-Work Office or email her at proszenyakb@manitowocpublicschools.org with any questions.
Sophomores and Juniors! Youth Apprenticeship applications are due March 5! The online application can be found HERE.
Youth Apprenticeship gives students the chance to "try out" a career area of interest. Students spend part of their school day doing real-life, hands-on, PAID learning under the guidance of a local business mentor. As paid employees of a local business partner, students have the same type of work, projects, and responsibilities as other employees in their career field.
Find more information about Youth Apprenticeship check out our web page here.

What Is Gratitude?
Gratitude is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.
Gratitude is pausing to appreciate the things that we often take for granted, like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends, family, even computer access. It's taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens — whether it's a small thing or a big thing.
We can use lots of words to describe feelings of gratitude: We might say we feel thankful, lucky, fortunate, humbled, or blessed.
Why Gratitude Matters
Gratitude doesn't just feel good. Making a habit of gratitude can also be good for us. Like other positive emotions, feeling grateful on a regular basis can have a big effect on our lives. Brain research shows that positive emotions are good for our bodies, minds, and brains.
Positive emotions open us up to more possibilities. They boost our ability to learn and make good decisions.
Positive emotions balance out negative emotions. People who often feel grateful and appreciative are happier, less stressed, and less depressed gratitude is like a U-turn on complaining or thinking about what we don't have.
One positive emotion often leads to another. When we feel grateful, we might also feel happy, calm, joyful, or loving.
Gratitude can lead to positive actions. When we feel grateful for someone's kindness toward us, we may be more likely to do a kindness in return. Your gratitude also can have a positive effect on someone else's actions. Thanking people can make it more likely they'll do a kindness again.
Gratitude helps us build better relationships. When we feel and express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to people in our lives, it creates loving bonds, builds trust, and helps you feel closer.
When we make it a habit to feel grateful, it makes us more aware of good things as they happen.
Build a Gratitude Habit
Sometimes, feelings of gratitude happen spontaneously. But we also can create feelings of gratitude by deliberately counting our blessings.
You can build a habit of counting blessings just by paying attention each day to things you're glad to have in your life. Slow down and notice what's around you. For example: "Wow, the sky is beautiful today! What an incredible world we live in," or, "There's Sara! It was so nice of her to help me yesterday."
Noticing the things you're grateful for is just the first step in building a gratitude habit, but you can try other things too, like taking the time to thank people or pausing to appreciate a star-filled sky. Start now. What's good about this moment?
