Spotlight Image: We love to celebrate our students, and Winding Creek on a particular day in early April had at least one Wolfpack friend from each grade celebrating a birthday on that specific day. Sure seems like that was a lucky day (and a great reason to celebrate)! We hope our friends had a howling great birthday. Eagles Around the District
Top left: Mrs. Gretchen Pugh’s 6th grade science classes at Mountain View Middle School are studying the weather. Students learned how to use digital thermometers to record the air and surface temperatures from various sites on campus, and then used light meters to record how much light was reaching and reflecting off the surfaces. This lab is part of an ongoing investigation to understand how hail forms.
Top center: Congratulations to Eagle View seventh graders Charvi Bhurri and Caitlin McCormick for winning first place in the Hershey Story’s History Contest for Young Writers. They were chosen from hundreds of applicants and will be honored at a breakfast in May. Way to go, Charvi and Caitlin!
Top right: Special thanks to our community volunteers who came together recently to fill give bags, make signs, and prepare awards for our upcoming Special Olympics. We're so excited to once again welcome our student-athletes to the stadium for a day of competition, friendship, and memory-making!
Bottom left: Students in Ms. Diane Stone's class at Green Ridge Elementary School recently went on a mission to save Willy the Worm from drowning, with only paperclips to aid in their rescue. This hands-on STEM activity tasked students with using their Portrait of an Eagle problem-solving skills. Check out our district Facebook page to see pictures from Mrs. Melissa Hester's third-grade class at Middlesex Elementary School, where her students were tasked with rescuing their gummy worm friend, Fred, as part of this same activity.
Bottom center: Cory Garbrick, a member of our Technology Department, captured this great picture of the solar eclipse on Monday.
Bottom right: Congratulations to Mountain View Middle School seventh-grader Akshaj Somisetty, who recently earned the top spot at WITF's 2024 Central PA Spelling Bee! Akshaj heads to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May! Special thanks to WITF for the photo.
Congratulations to our Indoor Guard team, who recently captured the KIDA Scholastic National A championship title. This is the second year in a row that the team has earned this recognition.
We also wish them well as they depart today for the Winter Guard International Championships.
The CV Spiralettes, through our Cumberland Valley Community Aquatic Program, invite you to their annual Synchronized Swimming Show, Summertime Splash. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on April 19 and 20, 2024, in the Cumberland Valley High School pool. Tickets are $10 (cash only) and available for purchase at the door.
From the Eagle Foundation
Join us this summer for the Eagle Foundation Summer Reading Camp! Each day will include themed activities centered around developing a love of reading taught by CV teachers. Your student will participate in different activities that will work on fluency, word work, comprehension, phonics and/or phonological awareness. Different daily themes will keep students engaged in the reading activities and keep them excited about reading while working on their skills. Some of the different themes are Space Odyssey, Olympic Games and Superhero Sensations. Each class will consist of approximately 16 students. Classes will run Monday – Thursday for two weeks. The cost for the two-week session is $150. You may sign up for as many sessions as you would like, but the activities will be the same in each session. There is a $15 cancellation fee. Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Students at Mountain View Middle School recently hosted a series of activities in support of their Student Council, who completed a service project for Caitlin's Smiles. Members of the Student Council volunteered at Caitlin's Smiles, where they filled "Smile Bags," which are sent to children in hospitals across the state. Meanwhile, back at school students created cards to accompany bags. Also as a part of the project, 7th graders Finnley McCarty, Natalie Festa, and Caitlyn Rudy hand-crocheted several "Good Luck Ducks" and other stuffed animals to donate to the project. WOW! (You may also spy one of our Shaull Shark friends, who joined in on this beautiful community service experience.) Our Eagles are empathetic! They are a Portrait of an Eagle.
