Calling the Class of 2028 - An Email Recap
email sent to Freshmen students & parents 1/16/25
Good afternoon, Class of 2028 and their Parents!
I will be filling in as a Freshman Class Sponsor through the end of this school year, and I met with the Freshman Class yesterday afternoon to talk about our t-shirt sales fundraiser, Wildcat Classic Shirts.
I'm including the topics that Mrs. Crews and I talked about with students, which included:
- Class Participation: Why we do it, how points work, and what we need to get done
- Class Funds: What money raised by the Class goes to, an example of Senior Trip costs (Class of 2025)
- Attendance Policy: Look for a recap in this week's WILDCAT ROAR
- Grade Level Promotion: Recap of August - a student must pass the school year with 6 credits to promote to a Sophomore status (7 credits are possible)
- Courtwarming Banner participation is coming up: We are waiting on details to be shared with sponsors from Student Council
When we talked about Wildcat Classic Shirt Sales, we informed students that:
- Students who sell at least 5 shirts will receive one Class Participation Point, per the handbook.
- Money is due when orders are placed.
- Checks should be made out to: SLATER SCHOOLS
- Orders and money are due in the HS Office when you arrive at school on TUESDAY, JANUARY 21.
- We should be ready to distribute shirts to students by the end of the day on Monday, January 27. Students will be responsible for delivery.
- Questions can be directed to:
Jessica Clements, Slater High School
jclements@slaterschools.net

Students were given an envelope with their name on it as well as order forms. Additional order forms are available in my office.
I will provide all students with their Class Participation Point totals after we determine Wildcat Class Shirt points. I need to get some information from Mrs. Butler in order to do this.
Updates/reminders will be posted in the Class of 2028 GroupMe. Please contact me if you need to be added.
Thank you, and have a great day!

The bracket will be updated on Slaterschools.net

Making the Grade
HS Report Cards for First Semester were sent home with students on Friday 7th hour.
At this time, we don't have a way to send them via mass email, but we're working on that.
Here are common questions/answers that came up:
Q: What units are the absences in on my report card (top right corner)?
A: Hours
Q: What's this A+ page stapled to my report card?
A: That's a status sheet for your A+ membership. A few things to note:
>>A+ tracks and averages your attendance throughout all of your years of HS. To qualify for A+,
you have to have at least a 95% attendance rate.
>>The 'Current Status' attendance that's written in is your cumulative attendance rate
throughout HS as of December 20, 2024.
>> If you have questions about your A+, contact Mrs. Anderson: canderson@slaterschools.net
Q: Do Tardies reset at Semester?
A: Yes.
Q: Does my attendance reset at Semester?
A: No. Attendance is cumulative for the year. It resets for us in August, but is cumulative for all four years for A+ membership/qualification.
Speaking of Grades...
Due to our five snow days at the beginning of the semester, our first Eligibility Check of Second Semester (February 3) will be based off of Attendance only, not grades.
The first Eligibility Check to include grades will be February 17.

Handbook Highlight
The Handbook Highlight is a recap of a handbook policy or entry that our Students/Adults need to be aware of. If I'm taking the time to include it, it's something to pay attention to - either because I'm seeing that people aren't clear on it, people aren't complying with it, or I'm about to start cracking down on it.
This week, the HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHT includes the policies that were reviewed with students on Friday, January 17 when they received their grade cards. (Freshman reviewed these policies on Wednesday, January 15 as well.)
ATTENDANCE MEASURES
The following measures may be utilized throughout the school year: reminder letters/emails, hotline call(s) may be placed, outside agencies (law enforcement, juvenile office) may be contacted.
Students whose cumulative attendance falls between 80-90% as of May 1st will be required to attend one week of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.
Students whose cumulative attendance falls below 80% as of May 1st will be required to attend two weeks of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students must meet all district graduation requirements per BOE policy IKF to graduate. Graduation requirements and grading scales for a student with a disability(ies) may be determined according to the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Participation in the commencement ceremony is a privilege and not a right. Students must be in good standing and have no outstanding balance on school accounts to participate in graduation or promotion ceremonies.
HS PROMOTION (Board Policy IKE):
Class Standing
The following is included for quick reference of graduation requirements and a listing of courses offered at SHS. Students must earn 25 designated credits to graduate from SHS. Students must also meet other obligations such as attendance, discipline guidelines, and debts prior to being eligible for graduation. Credits for students transferring from a school that is on block scheduling are converted to a seven-hour schedule. Grade level or class designations are based on the following criteria:
Freshman Class (Grade 9) Completion of the 8th grade and promoted by the sending school.
Sophomore Class (Grade 10) Students must have earned 6 credits as a Freshman. If 6 credits or more are not earned, the student will be in jeopardy of not graduating with their peers.

Old Business
Posted
On September 20, I informed the HS student body that due to issues with students wearing hats in the building during the school day, hats are not to be IN the building during the school day.
Hats should be left in vehicles or lockers. They can be left in the HS office if you need a place, but if It's on a student during the day, it will be sent to the HS office...with a referral.
Where'd You Go?
If you know that you won't be at school on a certain day for an appointment, meeting, etc. - besides telling your teachers (which is great!) - please let Ms. Mindy know.
You can do so by emailing her at mwiseman@slaterschools.net.
Parents can call Ms. Mindy at 660-529-2278, ext. 107.
Revisiting the Sportsmanlike Policy
Please note the policy for Unsportsmanlike Actions at an extra-curricular activity:
Administrator Warning
Minimum of 1 week, up to and including 365 day suspension from all District extracurricular events
365 day suspension from all District extracurricular activities
Who Let the Dogs IN?!?
Due to liability concerns from our insurance company, pets are not permitted on school property, including the Sports Complex.
This excludes service animals and classroom/curricular animals, pre approved by a Building Principal.
Clarification: Attending ballgames
Students learned in the first week of school that they must be in good standing to participate in extracurricular events/activities. (This includes attending those events as a spectator.)
Students must be in attendance at school for four consecutive hours on the day of the event to be able to play in or attend an extracurricular event/activity.
