Principal's Message
Dear Bannes Community,
As December unfolds and we prepare to wrap up the first half of the school year, I want to express my gratitude for the strong partnership between home and school that makes Bannes such a special place. Thank you for your participation in parent-teacher conferences last week. These conversations are invaluable in strengthening the connection between home and school, ensuring we work together to support your child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
A Few Important Highlights and Reminders:
Countdown to Winter Break: We’re making the days leading up to the break extra special with our “Countdown to Winter Break” activities! Be sure to look at the next section for the full list of fun events and themed days that will bring some added cheer to our halls.
Remembering Cathy & Alison Toy Collection: We are proud to continue our tradition of giving back through the “Remembering Cathy & Alison Toy Collection.” Please consider donating new, unwrapped toys to support families in need. Your generosity truly makes a difference in spreading joy and kindness throughout our community.
Half-Day Dismissal on December 20th: School will dismiss early at 11:10 AM, marking the start of our winter break. Classes will resume on January 7, 2025.
Cold Weather Recess: With the drop in temperatures, please ensure your child comes to school dressed warmly, including coats, hats, and gloves. Whenever possible, we’ll continue to have recess outdoors, so it’s important that students are prepared to enjoy the fresh air comfortably.
The Value of Attendance: Each school day is a new opportunity for learning, growth, and connection. When students are present, they build strong routines, deepen their understanding of academic concepts, and create lasting friendships. Of course, we understand that illnesses are a part of life, especially during cold and flu season. If your child is feeling unwell, rest and recovery at home are most important. However, when they are healthy, we encourage their consistent attendance to maximize their success and ensure they don't miss out on the exciting experiences we have planned!
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the opportunities that await in the new year. From academic growth to fun PTO events, 2025 promises to be filled with learning, laughter, and continued success. Thank you for your support in making our school a place where every Bobcat can thrive!
Wishing you a wonderful month of December.
Sincerely,
Ms. Folliard
Principal, Bannes Elementary

2024-25 Emergency Closing Notifications and eLearning Plan Review
As temperatures drop and winter weather begins, we’d like to take a moment to review our Emergency Closing notification protocols and eLearning Day plan.
If emergency days are needed due to snow or extreme cold, families will receive notification via an email/text message, and an alert will be posted on our District website. KSD 140 also communicates school closure information through the District’s social media accounts and the Emergency Closing Center (ECC). Detailed school closing information can be found here.
If an emergency closing day is needed, the District may elect to use an eLearning Day instead of a traditional “snow day” that has to be made up at the end of the school ye
ar. Please refer to our eLearning Day Overview to review specifics of the plan, including school hours and access to D140’s digital platforms.
Now would be a great time to ensure your contact information is up-to-date. Please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check your contact information and make any necessary changes.
Remembering Cathy & Alison Toy Collection
The 21st annual Remembering Cathy & Alison Toy Drive ends Thursday, December 19. Please consider donating toys, small gifts, or gift certificates to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation, which supports kids and teens fighting cancer.
Donations can be dropped off at any KSD 140 school from November 7 through December 19. For questions or more information, please contact Patti Rose at 708-712-5507 or pattirose17030@gmail.com
