Northview Familia,
Student Privacy Protocols and Resources
Recent changes to the sensitive locations policy have created some confusion and anxiety amongst many of our families and community members. I want to assure you that at Northview High School and Covina Valley Unified, we stand in unity with our students, families, and staff. Our superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer, reminded all community members of the following safety protocols that are in place in all of our schools:
A single point of public entry that requires all visitors, including law enforcement, to enter through the office at all preschool through grade 12 campuses, except Fairvalley, where security fencing is in the process of being installed.
Policies that prohibit the release of confidential student information, even to law enforcement, without the appropriate subpoena.
School office staff and administration follow protocols when law enforcement officials or outside agencies request to see a child or ask for confidential or personal student information.
Additionally, please refer to the following resources to remain informed and ensure that you and your family feel safe and prepared when faced with immigration-related situations:
- Step-By-Step Family Preparedness Plan
- Know Your Rights Red Cards
- Video: We Have Rights: When Documenting ICE Arrests
- Know Your Rights Under the U.S. Constitution
Attendance Matters!
Northview's average daily attendance for the week was 96.8% for week from 1/21 to 1/24. Let’s keep striving for even better attendance as we approach the 100th day of school.
College Visits
Many of our Vikings are earning admission to several colleges and universities across the country and many others are visiting schools as well. Send over pictures of your college visits so that we can feature you in our newsletter. Below, please see DJ Juarez and Samantha Rivera visiting Menlo College.
AP Research Surveys
Our AP Research students have begun their data collection process. Our AP Research students take on a year-long research project and synthesize their findings in a series of presentations submitted to the College Board. Please take a moment to fill out the following surveys:

Wellness Center
Greetings from the Wellness Center,
We have the power to shape our health, happiness, and overall well-being. One way to build this strength is by engaging in wellness activities. A wellness activity can be listening to music, playing instruments and even writing music. Music has the power to regulate emotions. It can help us express our feelings, reduce stress and anxiety, and enhance mood. Playing instruments can help with muscle coordination, motor skills, and physical endurance. So let’s get pick up those instruments and start listening to more music.

AVID Future Ready
Our Medical Club students and AVID students had a phenomenal time at Loma Linda University this past Friday.
Students were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of witnessing hands-on what medical students do and study in a real-life cadaver lab with real cadavers. Students were given tours of state of the arts facilities such as their stimulation lab. Students received a tour of the embryology museum that had state of the art artifacts. Students had the opportunity to speak with Loma Linda's Medical Professors and Medical students. The Dean of Students of Loma Linda encouraged our students to earn straight A's and gave them an encouraging speech to do so. Overall it was an amazing experience and inspiring experience for our students. To have opportunities for medical campus trips, students are encouraged to join our Med Club and/or apply to be in the AVID program.
Staff Spotlight
We would like to give a shout out to a 16 year Northview veteran, Mr. Ryan Naney. Mr. Naney teaches our Drone Pathway and Social Science. He is also our site tech guru. There is no computer or projector he cannot fix.
Mr. Naney adores traveling. He takes annual field trips with students to explore overseas. He loves introducing students to new cultures and helping them become more globally aware. To give you a sense of Mr. Naney, once he was working in Germany and he did not know how to ask which bus to take to work. He would not allow the language barrier to stand in his way. He took matters into his own hands—walking ten miles to get to work. His coworkers at the time applauded his tenacity. For him, every journey is an opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the world in its rawest form. He doesn't just travel—he immerses himself, and every challenge along the way only fuels his desire to explore further.
If Mr. Naney is not exploring another country, you can find him cruising on vintage scooters with his buddies and taking up photography to capture memories to last a lifetime.
We thank you, Mr. Naney for having insatiable curiosity and passion for the world and students alike.
From the Office of Ms. Smith
