Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
Did you know:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
Being on time is important too!
Lancaster County School District is implementing the new tardy policy for 2024-2025.

Erin's Law and Gavin's Law
During the month of September, our School Counselors will be working with classes regarding Erin's Law and Gavin's Law. The 2014 “Erin’s Law” amendment to the Comprehensive Health Act requires grades K-12 instruction in the prevention of child sexual abuse. The state department has instructional resources available for suggested teaching activities that are aligned with health education standards. With Gavin's Law, the bill reads in part, "Local school districts shall collaborate with the State Department of Education, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Attorney General’s office, as appropriate, to implement a policy to educate and notify students of the provisions of this act which includes adequate notice to students, parents or guardians, the public, and school personnel of the change in law.
Fall MAP and Benchmark Testing
MATH MAP Norms
READING MAP Norms
Speak with your student and their teacher to see where your student is performing. NWEA MAP test is a National Norm Test that all LCSD students take for Math and Reading in the fall, winter, and spring to measure academic growth and progress. In addition to MAP testing, we also take the District's Benchmark tests, administered also in the fall, winter, and spring.
While it may seem like we are testing often, teachers and staff use the data from each of the tests administered to better align and guide their instruction to ensure each child is getting exactly what they need.
Parent Teacher Conferences
South Middle School will hold our first Parent Teacher Conference Night on Tuesday, October 22 from 4:00-6:00 pm. Mark your calendars and invest in your child's education!
