A message from Dr. Clark
A Message from Father Abner and Dr. Clark
December 13, 2024
Dear Holy Cross Community.
As the calendar year comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and commitment to the school. Our faculty and staff have been hard at work to provide your students with the best possible Catholic education, guiding their spiritual and academic journeys.
To continue building upon the legacy of excellence that characterizes Holy Cross School, we have been focused on strategic planning for continuous improvement and sustainability. This year, we have been focusing our efforts on strategic initiatives that will enable us to advance the Holy Cross missions. On the Parish side, we have been focused on reviewing our Pastoral evangelization program to better serve the community. Likewise, we have been working on our development initiatives, which overlap with the school’s goals. Dr. Clark has been supporting this initiative as well and has been working on an enrollment management plan with the team to guide efforts at the school. We are excited for Holy Cross’ bright future and look forward to sharing more updates with you in the coming months.
As we recognize Dr. Clark’s valuable contributions, I also want to share that she has informed me that she will not return as Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. While Dr. Clark loves the school and strongly believes in Holy Cross’ mission and promising future, her family’s needs are taking her in a different direction. Dr. Clark’s letter to the community can be found below.
Dr. Clark remains fully committed to serving as principal for the remainder of the school year. At the same time, I want to reassure you that, in collaboration with the Superintendent and the School Business Team Chairs, we have begun the search for Holy Cross’s next great leader. We look forward to sharing additional information when we return from break.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. May God’s blessings be abundant with you this holiday season and always.
Fr. Abner Ables
Pastor
Holy Cross Church
Dear Holy Cross Community,
The past six months at Holy Cross have been incredibly special, inspiring, and uplifting. I have grown professionally and spiritually alongside Fr. Abner, Fr. Marcos, our exceptional faculty, staff, and students. Leading a school that prioritizes faith and student success is a true honor and blessing.
As I shared in August, our family brought us back to Kansas City, and I believe the Holy Spirit guided me to Holy Cross. We have been taking care of our parents’ health needs, and in this most difficult time, this community has brought so much light and joy to my life. As such, I will forever be grateful to you. Unfortunately, our family’s health needs have continued to evolve and have required us to make some very difficult decisions as a family. With a heavy heart, I am writing to share that after prayerful consideration, I will not return to Holy Cross as Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. We will relocate to Dallas, Texas, where I have accepted a Head of School position, in the summer.
Please know that, as Fr. Abner shared, I remain fully committed to supporting Holy Cross's mission and community as principal for the remainder of this school year. I look forward to supporting the transition process as the school searches for its next leader, who will carry on Holy Cross’ legacy of excellence and continue to shape the school’s bright future.
Holy Cross is an incredible school, made all the more special by the remarkable people who define its essence. Thank you for the fantastic opportunity to join this one-of-a-kind community, your continued support, and your heartwarming kindness.
With deep appreciation and best wishes for a blessed weekend,
Paola V. Clark, Ed.D.
Principal

Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue
Holy Cross has adopted a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System called the Be Holy Cross Virtuous Behavior Formation. Expectations are clearly defined under the “Be Holy Cross” framework. Students are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the expectations set in this framework to be caring, responsible, obedient, and successful stewards. Individual, classroom, and school-wide expectations will be taught at the beginning of the school year and emphasized at various times. Students will be acknowledged for positive behaviors. This aligns with our annual theme: In a world where you can be anything...Be Holy Cross.
Education in Virtue is the Archdiocesan Catholic Social-Emotional Learning program, a key component of our Virtuous Formation Program. It provides a curriculum and resources developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings on the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These resources provide a framework for helping people of all ages understand how to live more virtuously.
At Holy Cross, we highlight a virtue each month that is woven organically into lessons and our daily school life. They are used in our announcements to guide our morning prayer, selection of the Saint of the Month, activities for our Faith Families, and classroom lessons. The virtue of December is Generosity.
