When your child(ren) will be absent from school, please report the absence by using the SafeArrival system or by contacting the school. If there are unexplained absences, SafeArrival will contact you at three points during the day.
Attendance is a major priority to us and we ask for your support as we work to ensure students are in school on time and attending class on a regular basis. If you have any questions about attendance or reporting procedures, please contact the school.
MCHS Got Talent!
There is so much talent in our school community! On Oct. 15th beginning at 7:00PM we will be hosting an event in aid of local food banks. No tickets required. We just ask that you bring a non-perishable food time if you can. Big thanks to our Student Leadership Group for organizing this event!
Supports for Students
When it comes to course work, your child's teacher is always the best resource. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
In addition to classroom supports, there are a range of options for students. We have a peer tutoring program that will be up and running in the coming weeks. Our PASS program is an excellent resource for students who qualify.
NL Schools has a YouTube channel that includes Mathematics support and the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI) is a platform that any student can access.
Ms. Cusick has a range of supports and services listed on the Guidance website, we have a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor, Victoria Walsh, at our school bi-weekly, and Youth Outreach Worker, Jeff Moutlon, is at our school every Wednesday. If you have questions about any of these resources, please contact the school.
From our Guidance Counsellor, Ms. Cusick...
-Grade 12 students are encouraged to join the Google Classroom that has been set up for them. Here, students will find information about scholarships, various opportunities, student loan information, and more.
- A MUN recruiter was in last week to meet with both our Grade 12s and our Career classes. It was an informative presentation that gave the students a glimpse of what MUN has to offer and things they need to be aware of as potential first year university students. Important to note for our Grade 12s that MUN's online application opens at 5:00pm on October 16th. If any student wants help applying please see me.
- The Health and Wellness Committee will be holding their first meeting on Thursday at lunchtime in the PASS room. Any students interested in being members are welcome to attend.
- MCHS GSA will be holding its first meeting in the near future. If any students are interested in joining please see me.
- Any Grade 12 students that are interested in college programs should ensure they know when applications open because the majority of them accept applicants on a first come, first served basis and waitlists can be long if they delay applying. Any questions come see me.
-Ms. Cusick
