We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2028 to Westlake High School. Included in this newsletter is important information for your incoming Freshman student. Parent / Guardian Virtual Parent Presentation:

The Counseling department at WHS has a dedicated section on its website called Course Exploration. This section provides information about the various electives and courses that are available to students. Additionally, you can find a few promotional blurbs from teachers about their classes/programs below. You and your student can expect to receive more information when the counselors visit your student's middle school and during the parent presentation in April.
ELECTIVE CLASS INFO
- Computer Science - Interested in taking a Computer Science class at Westlake HS? Any 9th grader can take Computer Programming 1, and any 9th grader who has successfully completed Algebra 1 or a middle school programming class can take AP Computer Science Principles. If you have any questions about these classes, please contact Lisa Ryder at LRyder@conejousd.org
WHS SCIENCE CAREER EMPHASIS PROGRAM
- Join the WHS Science Career Emphasis Program! Elevate your academic journey and embrace a community that fosters growth and excellence. The science CEP incentivizes students to complete activities that develop skills associated with careers, promotes a deeper focus in science, and makes the content more relevant.

- WHS Band
- Auditions for Incoming Students / After school April 9-11
- Go to whsband.org to access audition materials and the sign-up genius to reserve an audition time
- WHS Orchestra
- Auditions for the honors levels of Orchestra are due April 8 via video

If you are interested in joining one or more of the 27 sports teams at Westlake High School, check out our Future Warrior Packet to learn what sports are offered and what is required to be a WHS student-athlete. See below for upcoming dates on some of our sports. Stay tuned if you don't see your sport or are looking for more details. Per CIF rules, correspondence between coaches and incoming 9th grade athletes may not begin until May 1st for the following year. Check on the Westlake Athletics site for more information and the
Students who wish to play a sport must complete the athletic clearance process each school year before they participate in any sport (this includes tryouts, practices, and summer training programs). For more information, including instructions and forms, please visit https://westlakeathletics.com/athletic-clearance-instructions.
Please find below the announcements and save the dates for some of our sports. If you do not see the sport you are looking for, bookmark the Athletics Sport Tryout / Summer Schedule, as Athletics will keep updating the dates as the school year progresses.
BASKETBALL
- Boys Basketball
- Incoming Freshman Camp / M-Wed., June 17-19 from 2-4pm in the WHS Gym
- Bring basketball shoes, shorts & a t-shirt. No basketball is needed.
- Must be athletically cleared to participate
- After the camp, players will be selected to participate in our Summer season, which includes tournaments, leagues, and practices. The season would be from 6/17 to 6/30 and 7/15 to early August.
- Girls Basketball
- Summer Kickoff Parent Meeting / Wednesday, June 5th at 6:00pm in the WHS Library
- Summer Tryouts - week of June 17-21 (actual dates and times TBD)

CROSS COUNTRY
- New Athlete / Parent Meeting - Thursday, May 9th at 6:00pm in the WHS Library
- Athletes who wish to be part of Cross Country must complete summer conditioning
- Athletes can contact Coach Scott (chadscott@conejousd.org) or Coach Burns (tburns@conejousd.org) with questions.
SWIM
- Home Game vs. NPHS / Tuesday, March 26
- League Finals at home / April 24 & 26
TENNIS
- Girls Tennis
- Summer Training - Monday, June 17 at 8:30-11:00am, Mon-Thur. at our WHS Tennis Courts
- Tryouts - Mon. July 29 and Tues. July 30, from 8:30am-11:00am at WHS Tennis Courts
You and your student can tour the high school led by our Principal and ASG Student Leaders. The tour begins at 11:00am. There is no need to RSVP; check in with the receptionist 10-15 minutes early.
WOW / Westlake Orientation & Welcome
Sign up for your future warrior to attend WOW.
Step 1 - We are requesting donations of $50 per student. Your donation will help pay for the supplies and staff. You can donate here.
Step 2 - Please register using our WOW Google Form. We will send out communication in the months leading up to the event.
