FCCLA STUDENTS HAVE BUSY FIRST QUARTER
Clinton High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) members recently accepted a generous donation from fellow member, Boston Moody and the Clinton Masonic Lodge. Over the summer, Boston raised more than $1300 by selling homemade fudge and bundt cakes, with the purpose of helping offset the cost of FCCLA conferences. Boston also surprised each FCCLA member with homemade fudge!
Last week, CHS and CMS FCCLA members traveled together to the FCCLA Missouri Fall Leadership Conference at Osage Beach, where they engaged in leadership sessions and networking events. CHS took second place for attendance!

MARVELOUS MATTERS
Fifth graders in Mrs. Brooklynn Engeman's class have been learning about the Law of Conservation of Matter.
To help them understand this concept, students created "lava lamps". Students dissolved fizzy tablets in a bottle of water and oil to demonstrate that even though they could not see the tablets anymore, the weight of the lava lamp would remain the same due to the Law of Conservation of Matter.

KINDERGARTEN CREATIONS
Kindergartners in Mrs. Olson's class have been able to use their creativity during writing time as they play the part of an illustrator.
Students completed a directed drawing using shapes then added lots of color and details to fill up the page. As you can see, the students did a fabulous job!
Directed drawing is an instructional technique where the teacher provides step-by-step guidance on how to create a specific drawing. This technique helps children develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and creative expression. It also encourages them to follow instructions and build confidence in their artistic abilities.

GROWING OUR OWN
Clinton High School is excited to announce that it recently received a grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This $10,000 Grow Your Own Grant is designed to increase recruitment of high school students into the teaching profession.
For the past three years, CHS has taken a proactive approach to combat the growing teacher shortage crisis. Students who show interest in pursuing a career in teaching have the opportunity to be a part of the Future Teachers of America program, allowing them to attend college visits to education programs in the region and also attend the University of Missouri Future Teacher Academy. Clinton High School also created an internship program within the district to allow high school students with the identified interest and characteristics to enroll in “Teaching As A Profession”. These students are provided with a year-long mentorship in the grade-level classroom of their choice. This program allows for high school students to get teaching experiences and mentorship of the teaching profession, allows younger students to see the older students as a teacher role-model, creates a sense of “home” for students, and builds a partnership with the greater Clinton community.
Through the reward of this grant, Clinton High School will offer students who complete the Teaching As A Profession internship, and are enrolled in a Missouri Educator Program within their post-secondary plans, with a $500 scholarship. These students will be given one year of mentoring provided by the teacher in which he/she interned with. Teachers will also be paid $500 for their agreement and completion of this mentorship to the student. This mentorship will include monthly check-ins, advice, questions, classroom observation placements and opportunities, and the connection of a homebase for these students.
“I am extremely excited Clinton High School received the Grow Your Own grant," says Jenny Corson, Clinton High School Principal. "Only 125 schools in Missouri were awarded the grant and we are grateful to be one of them. Our hope is to grow our students into educators and bring them back to the district to teach!”
HUNTING FOR KNOWLEDGE
Students in Mrs. Jones' 7th grade social studies classes are learning about the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle. This was the way of life for humans until the emergence of agriculture 12,000 years ago.
To better help them understand this lifestyle, students participated in a simulation in which they created shelters and hunted/gathered food to see who could survive.

PREPARING FOR THEIR FUTURES
Empowering and preparing students for life after high school is important, and this happened at the district's annual College and Career Fair.
Close to 500 students, including all juniors and seniors at Clinton High School and students from nearby districts, participated in this event. Students had the opportunity to talk to more than 60 colleges, businesses, union representatives, technical/trade schools, and military representatives. Two students even walked away with job offers!
Thanks to Leslie Largent, Career Services Coordinator at Clinton Technical School, for her work in arranging such a successful event.

"FALL"ING INTO LEARNING
Little Cardinals in Mrs. April Cole's class recently had fun learning all about autumn and how seeds fall from plants. They enjoyed learning about acorns, hedge apples, pecans, and walnuts.
Their favorite part was making walnut brownies!

CULTIVATING THE FUTURE
On Friday, October 6th, Clinton High School FFA students provided a great opportunity for CIS 3rd graders and other area students.
In their "Food for America" program, FFA students taught elementary students that their food doesn't just come from the grocery store shelf. Students learned about the importance of the agriculture industry and how all of us depend on farmers.
There were many hands-on activities led by FFA students and many students even brought their own livestock to share with students.

EMPOWERING TOMORROW'S LEADERS
Henry Elementary School's Student Leadership Team has begun! Students were nominated by their teachers and will help with the student store, Cardi Market, and other school projects throughout the year.
The Student Leadership Team is part of Henry Elementary's participation in the Leader in Me program, which is based on Steven Covey’s book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
The Leader in Me framework believes that everyone can be a leader, and this model is helping even the youngest students learn essential life skills such as taking initiative, planning ahead, setting goals, and solving problems.
