Congratulations to our Maroon Giants Varsity Football team on their win Friday night for the Homecoming game! They beat the Stevensville Lakeshore Lancers 41-37. Keep the W train moving Giants!

Lady Giants Swim and Dive
After being runners-up the last two years, your Lady Giants Swim and Dive Team won the Coldwater Invitational. They dominated the meet from start to finish, winning 11 of the 12 events. Individual event winners were Bianca Boldt, 200-year Freestyle; Maggie Spybrook, 200-yard Individual Medley and 100-yard Backstroke; Delanie Rimes, 50-yard Freestyle and 500-yard Freestyle; Kiya Bowman, 1-meter spring board, 6 Rounds with Madison Jones taking 2nd in our 1st 1 -2 finish of the day; Sasha Land, 100-yard Butterfly; Isis Land, 100-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Breaststroke. Our winning relays: the 200-yard Medley Relay with Spybrook, Teagan Tarnutzer, Rimes, and S. Land) and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay with Spybrook, Boldt, Rimes, and I. Land. The greatest impact on winning the meet came from our depth and our swimmers setting Personal Records (PR). Boldt had PRs in the 200- and 500-yard Freestyles; Jesslyn Brown set PRs in the 100-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Backstroke; Luci Martinez set PRs in the 200-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Butterfly; Madison Moore set a PR in the 100-yard Freestyle; Kate Risley set a PR in the 100-yard Freestyle; Tarnutzer set PRs in the 200-yard Individual Medley and100-yard Breaststroke; and Arianna Webb set PRs in the 200- and 500-yard Freestyles. Also, contributing to the team's point total was Elle Nyirenda's 7th place finish in the 50-yard Freestyle.
Next home meet for you Lady Giants is Tuesday 9/24/24 at 6 pm when they host the Lady Bearcats from Battle Creek Central.
Marching Giants
“Congratulations to our Marching Giants who performed at the Portage Central Marching Invitational over the weekend and placed third in Class A competition. The band’s next performance is at the Grand Haven Marching Invitational on Saturday, September 28th.”
Model UN
The Kalamazoo Central Model United Nations Team will have its first meeting on Thursday to kick off its season. We will meet in room 549 at 2:30 and go till 3pm. This is our intro meeting and we will have information for new and old members. If you are interested please attend and learn about what we do and where we go. See you there.

Giant Awareness - Support Leukemia Awareness Month - Wear Orange
As September is Leukemia Awareness Month, we invite everyone to wear orange to our sporting events in solidarity with our students who are bravely fighting their battle.
Your participation will help raise awareness and show our support for them and all those affected by this illness.

KC Travel Club

Senior Pictures
Just a quick reminder for all seniors: your senior photos are due November 25th! Make sure to submit them on time so you can be included in the yearbook. Don’t wait until the last minute—start getting those pictures in now! Photos can be submitted through the class of 2025 Google Classroom using the senior photo link. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Douglas.
GIANT Expectations
- IDs are required to gain entrance into the building. They must be worn at all times around your neck and displayed. You may purchase an extra ID from Mrs. Garza for five dollars.
- Hats, Hoodies, or Bonnets are not allowed to be worn in the building at any time.
- Cell Phones may not be used during class time or while on bathroom breaks. Students may use cell phones before school, passing time, lunch, and after school.
- To send in all student absences to CHSattendance@kalamazoopublicschools.net. If the absence is for a doctor's visit please remember to send in the doctor's office note with your email.
- All Chromebook issues will be handled in the Chromebook Room during lunch
Attendance Policy
Parent(s)’/Guardian(s)’ Responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to notify the student’s school as early as possible on the day of an absence and explain the reasons for the absence.
Written or email verification of a student’s absence by a parent/guardian is required (unless otherwise indicated by the appropriate administrator) and should be provided to the school the day after an absence.
Student absences are considered unexcused if documentation supporting an excused absence is not provided.
After 3 consecutive absences, a medical note from a physician may be required.
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to make arrangements with the teacher to obtain missed assignments due to absences.
What is an excused absence?
Student illness and/or appointment verified by the parent/guardian or medical professional
Medically verified extended illness or hospitalization
Attending a funeral
Religious holiday
Absence due to a subpoenaed court appearance
Any time missed due to KPS school transportation issues

Maroon Giants Speed Club
Attention all student athletes: do you want to sprint faster, jump higher, and grow stronger for your sport? Then the Maroon Giants Speed Club is for you. Speed Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the track (weather permitting) from 2:45 until 4:30. Our first day of training will be Tuesday, September 10th. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. See you there!
