📰 News You Can Use
🌱 🧠 We Can Do Hard Things! 🧠 🌱
A Strong Start!
The 2024-2025 school year is off to a great start! We spent the first full week learning classroom routines and school procedures. Doing so enables us to spend more time invested in our learning and growth throughout the school year.
This past week was our first full week of school, and boy were we tired by the end! As we get back into the swing of things, please encourage all students to get a good night's sleep during the week. The routines you establish at home are just as important as the routines we establish at school. When things are predictable, they are easier for all!
***As a reminder, Mondays are early-release days across the District. Carol Stream students are dismissed at 2:15pm every Monday.***
📝 Carol Stream Curriculum Night - Wednesday, September 4th 📝
Please join us for Carol Stream School's Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 4th from 6:30 to 7:30pm. During this time, you will have the opportunity to learn about the grade level standards and expectations which guide your child's learning throughout the year.
There will be two sessions available, so if you have more than one child in the school, you will have a chance to visit multiple grade levels.
Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend. The event is intended for parents/guardians only. Note, the August 23 edition of CCSD93’s Enews incorrectly indicated the opposite.
We hope to see you Wednesday night!
🪪 IDs Required 🪪
As a reminder, if you plan on volunteering or entering the school building during school hours, you will be asked for a state ID or drivers license. In addition, if you are picking your student up early, we are required to ask for ID (even if we know you) for verification purposes. Please be patient and bear in mind that we do this for the safety and security of all of our students. Please do not be offended when we ask for your ID as it is part of our security policy.
👓 👂 Vision & Hearing Screenings 👓 👂
The annual Vision and Hearing screening is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2024.
Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor.
The following classes will be screened:
Vision
Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 8th grade, new students, students receiving special education services, foster children and students referred by a teacher or parent.
Hearing
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd,, new students, students receiving special education services, foster children and students referred by a teacher or parent.
Students who have submitted an eye examination report within the past year, will NOT be screened for vision.
Children who have glasses should bring them to school for the screening. School children who are wearing glasses will have their glasses checked, but will not be screened for vision. If you are aware of a special problem your child may be having, please contact the nurse.
If you do not want your child’s vision and/or hearing screened, please submit a written note or email to the nurse prior to the screening day.
You will be notified if your child requires further testing and evaluation. If you have any questions, please feel free to call your school nurse.
Sincerely,
CCSD93 Nurses
Sinceramente,

🪴 Families Help Our Cheetahs Grow 🪴
Our goal is to help your child grow to be their best self in school each day. You can help your child’s growth at home too. This section of the Carol Stream Chronicles will give you suggestions, ideas, and tips on how you can support their growth outside of school.
We Are Responsible
One of the most important things you can do at home is to set up solid routines for your family. Students that follow routines are more likely to complete homework, get enough sleep, and develop healthy habits. Make a routine for getting ready for the day, afterschool, and bedtime. PBS Kids has some great resources to help your family with this. This will help your child grow into responsible adults!

☎️ Communication ☎️
📌 As the school year kicks off, we know that also means cold and flu season is coming. Please remember to call the school office (630) 588-5400 to report a student's absence.
📌 If you need to change the way a student is going home, please call the office. Classroom teachers do not typically get to their email messages until after school. Calling the office will allow us to make sure students and teachers get notified of the change right away.
🚗 Arrival & Pick-up Procedures 🚗
As a reminder, when school begins, please follow the traffic flow when dropping off and/or picking up your student(s). This is done for the safety of all students. If you would like to walk up with your child or meet them at the door, please utilize the parking lot at St. Luke's. There is no parking anywhere in front of the school on Sioux Lane during student arrival and dismissal. We will be utilizing the entire walkway to load and unload students from cars. The back parking lot is for staff and buses only. Please click on the map for a larger image of the traffic flow and remember that Sioux is a one-way street during this time.
***New This Year***
- There is no parking anywhere in front of the school, including in front of the steps. This is a no parking zone and we will be utilizing it for arrival/pickup.
- For the safety of our students and families, students will remain near the building until their ride has arrived.
- All families will be provided with a name tag to display on the front passenger side visor. This name tag will come home with your child after the first day of school, so please check his/her backpack.
- As cars arrive, school staff will be directing them to a numbered spot (signs will mark Pickup Zones 1 through 6)
- Patrol teams will assist students to the designated zones for pick-up.
NOTE: St. Luke's generously allows us to use their parking lot. Please respect their landscaping by walking on sidewalks.

We are seeking male role models (dads, uncles, grandpas, big brothers, etc.) to sign up and commit to a day of the week/time to come into our building to interact with our students. If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Romano at (630) 588-5400.
