DCJHS Gifted Program

Gifted students at Dawson County Junior High are served through the Advanced Content Delivery Model. Courses in this model are homogeneously grouped based on ability and/or interest. The courses consist of both gifted and high achieving students and are taught by gifted-certified teachers.

Course options available to 8th grade students include: Honors 9th Grade Physical Science, Honors 9th Grade Literature, Honors GSE Algebra I, Honors Georgia Studies, Honors 8th Grade Language Arts, and Honors 8th Grade Math.

Course options available to 9th grade students include: Honors Biology, Honors 10th Grade Literature, Honors GSE Geometry, Honors American Government, Honors 9th Grade Literature, and Honors GSE Algebra I.

To continue in the program, students must maintain course average of 70 or above in gifted course(s).

If a student does not score a 70 in the gifted course, parents are notified and an SST is set up to determine interventions, known as a a Plan of Improvement (POI), to help the student improve performance. Student is placed on probation for one semester. Teachers will monitor and communicate regularly with parents about the student's performance.
