FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY FUN!
What a wonderful way to end the week! We would like to thank our PTO and the many volunteers who helped make this day a success!! We appreciate the coming together on campus to give our students this special connection event. It was wonderful to have so many volunteers on campus to see our Big Buddies being caring leaders for their Little Buddies. Smiles were everywhere! Enjoy just a few candid pictures of the Friendship Friday in action!

Red Ribbon/Bully Prevention Week is NEXT WEEK!
Be Drug Free and Let Kindness Rule!
Red Ribbon and Bully Prevention Week is an annual motivator to show intolerance for drugs in our communities. Each year during the end of October, more than 80 million young people and adults show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by wearing or displaying a red ribbon. Many schools also take time to show spirit towards these goals, making the student voice celebratory! Our theme this year is Be Drug Free and Let Kindness Rule! Our Peer Mentor group has worked hard to organize this fun week and show their leadership skills!
Join us for the following Spirit Days:
Mon. Oct. 28: School Opposite Day - dress like your teacher!
Tues. Oct. 29: Use your head and don't do drugs - wear a hat!
Wed. Oct. 30: Keep your future BRIGHT - wear neon and bright colors!
* Thurs. Oct. 31: Character Day - dress as your favorite book character! (see below for more)
Fri. Nov. 1: Red Ribbon Day - wear red!
October 31st is a day many people celebrate as Halloween. At Woodside, we use this day as a time for our students to dress in costume if they would like, but rather than Halloween, we refer to it as Character Day. Many of our families do not celebrate Halloween, and in the spirit of inclusivity, we want ALL our students, staff, and families to feel seen. Join us for Character Day on 10/31 at 8:30am. Students may dress up and bring a book that matches the character (if your child is Spiderman, look for a Spiderman book). Teachers and our amazing librarian Mrs. Holverstott can help your child look for a book in our library. We will have a brief parade where students can see one another’s costumes and matching books.
Last Call for Kids Can! Food Drive
Bring canned and non-perishable food items to your classroom to help those less fortunate in our community by next Friday, November 1st! Share your care for others!
The KCRA 3 Kids Can! Food Drive has been helping to feed hungry families in our community since 1987. Children, parents and teachers brought in more than 153,000 pounds of food in 2023. We need your help now more than ever and hope that you will be able to participate in the drive once again.
Income Verification: LAST CALL!
Income verification is essential to funding for ALL sites and must be collected by 10/31/2024.
This information is essential for securing both state and federal funding. Our goal is to achieve 100% completion (excluding those who opt out) by the final collection date of October 31, 2023.
Without correct information, district and site funding is at risk.
A variety of critical programs, grants, and funding, for ALL schools, is dependent on data related to income levels. School funding information is used to determine priority access to various programs that provide resources for all students, like on-line tutoring, summer programs, enrichment, intervention, additional staff, technology and supplemental materials.
It’s important for families to understand that this information is kept confidential.
Update via the Parent Portal.
Dress Code Survey
San Juan Unified introduced a new student dress code at the start of this school year and we would like to take this opportunity to check in on how the rollout has been so far. Your feedback is important to us, and we would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts. Please visit www.sanjuan.edu/dresscode for an overview of the new dress code and take the survey here.
Thank you for your continued support of San Juan Unified.
Woodside PTO
The PTO would like to thank all of the parents who helped on the 1st ever Friendship Friday. This was a huge success for the entire school bringing many smiling faces. We were able to provide a free hot dog lunch for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to having more events in the future for our school. The can food drive is still going with one week left. If you have any non-perishable items to donate, have your children bring it to their teachers by November 1st.

Innovative School Design Updates
The staff is currently working on “seeing the systems” of behavior and attendance. This is an important first step in innovation and design thinking. Do you have some thoughts on this for your own child and the experiences they’re having at Woodside? Please reach out to me for a chat. I’d love to hear more from the community about these two important topics. Please email me at dvictor@sanjuan.edu, and we can set up a time for a conversation.
