Digital Citizenship
YOUR GUIDE TO HELPING YOUR STUDENTS STAY SAFE ONLINE
BRING OUT THE BEST IN YOUR CHILDREN ONLINE
Technology plays a growing role in the lives of students, particularly during this time in which their education is increasingly reliant on technology. While students are often quite adept at using tech tools, navigating the online world can sometimes be more complicated. All K-5 students will participate in hands-on instruction at the beginning of the school year to develop strong digital citizenship skills. The lessons, developed by Fulton County Schools in partnership with Common Sense Media, lay the groundwork for students to successfully use technology to enhance their learning and their lives as they grow older. The school-based instruction is just one component to developing good digital citizens. Parents and guardians are encouraged to play an active role in their student’s use of technology at home. Check out links below for resources on a variety of topics relevant to elementary school students.
TECHNOLOGY USE AND CARE
Prek-5th grade students are provided access to a device to use as a part of their learning at Barnwell.
PreK and Kindergarten classrooms have iPad carts; 1st-5th grade classrooms have laptop carts. These devices are used only at school and do not go home with students. Students are required to follow all rules and procedures that are reviewed with them regarding proper device use and care. Click here for a link to the mandatory FCS video students viewed.
