Principal's Message
We need to bring a concerning matter to light to our families. Throughout the course of the year, we have been discussing and working with our students regarding hallway safety. We understand that energy is high with our 12-14 year old students in our hallways, and the desire to run, jump, and horseplay is enticing and may seem harmless, but the fact is that we encounter many instances where students are accidentally hurt or cause damage to school property. A more common problem that we face is when bystanders are injured due to rough housing or unsafe behavior in our hallways.
We are asking for conversations to occur at home to help reinforce the message and monitoring that we are doing here at school. Running, jumping, horseplay, and/or rough housing will not be allowed nor will be ignored. Students are not to make physical contact with their friends or others, and students should not be running or jumping in the halls. We are trying to prevent potential injuries as well as disciplinary consequences for those not following the Bear Essentials of Responsibility and Safety. Thank you for your support, and should you have questions or wish to discuss, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Marsch or myself.
Berks Junior County Chorus
On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Boyertown choir students in 7th, 8th and 9th grade had the opportunity to audition for Berks Junior County Chorus through the Music Educators of Berks County and Berks Art Council at Governor Mifflin High School. The students were asked to learn, “We Are the Voices” by Jim Papoulis for the audition. Each student had to sing a selection of the song in front of a panel of judges.
Mrs. Cullipher, Mrs. Rutt, and Mr. Brunner had an outstanding group of singers audition, and 30 of them were chosen to participate in the 2024 Junior County Chorus. Congratulations to our MSE participants: Charlotte Burrell, Saramarie Edinger, Sophie Lavanga, Auri Cardillo, Ryleigh Weller, Trenton Monaghan, Benjamin McDermott, Ryan Camp, Conor Ferster, Jaden Ehst

YAG
On Saturday February 10th the Youth and Government Club attended the Pre-Legislative Conference held at Central Dauphin High School.
The students attended trainings to learn about their roles in the upcoming Model Government Convention that will occur in April. The club has students in several parts of the model government. The students in the legislative branch are working on laws to improve issues affecting Pennsylvania.
The students in the judicial branch learned about the court case they will be defending. They are learning how to write briefs and look at case law to make strong arguments.
A few students are participating in the press corps. The press will update all the exciting events of the Model Government weekend through articles and social media.
The students learned a lot and are all working hard in their roles. They will see their hard work payoff when they get to participate in a Model Government Convention in the State Capitol from April 18th to April 21st.
Therapy Dogs Coming to MSE!
We are excited to announce that starting February 22nd, 2024, certified Therapy dog teams will be visiting Boyertown Middle School East. There are three certified teams that will be visiting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (with an on call availability possible the other days of the week). Their visits will be with our Life Skills and Emotional Support students in their respective classrooms.
While we would love all our students to have the opportunity to be provided with the comfort and support therapy dogs can provide, we will limit their exposure to those students who have been determined with the highest needs. The teams will be coming into our building via the office entrance and moving in the hallways to get to their assigned room.
Therapy dogs, while not service dogs, are working dogs. They have been specifically trained and certified to do their service, as have their handlers/owners. While there are no rules against petting Therapy dogs, we are going to ask that if students see the teams in the hallway that they refrain from petting them. We also request that students refrain from running up to them or moving toward them as they navigate the hallways.
Our therapy teams have been trained and cleared by the Boyertown Volunteer parameters to visit our building and we are lucky to have them join us. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Sue Bani, Special Education teacher/ Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog Evaluator & Trainer at sbani@boyertownasd.org
