Week 9
Good Afternoon,
We had a special visit from the Tinker AFB Fire Department & the Midwest City Fire Department today to teach our PK - 4th grade students about fire safety! This was a big hit, especially getting to spray the hose! We are grateful for these local heroes and all that they do for our community! We also had a visit from our very own Deacon Javier Solis, who delivered a great message on Living Sacramentally to our middle school students today at 3V! Thank you Deacon Javier!
The first quarter has flown by, and Fall Break is here! I hope everyone is looking forward to a well-deserved break. Just a reminder: we will have early dismissal tomorrow (Thursday, October 10th), and there will be no school on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday. Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 16th.
This first quarter has been packed with events and activities, and we’re excited to return with renewed energy to dive deeper spiritually and academically in the second quarter. Can you believe we’re starting the second quarter soon? Only 77 days until Christmas—though who’s counting!
Here are a few important dates to remember:
- Picture Day: October 17th
- Holy Fire Confirmation Retreat (Middle School): October 26th
- All Hallows Eve Event: October 26th
- Veterans Day Program: November 11th
Picture Day
October 17th is Picture Day! What a great excuse to schedule haircuts over Fall Break?! We will be wearing our Mass Uniforms for pictures. Please wear your Mass Sweater that day if you have one. New students: If you do not have one yet, we will provide one for the picture.
Holy Fire Confirmation Retreat
A reminder for our 7th and 8th grade families: If you would like to register your child for the Holy Fire Confirmation Retreat, please do so HERE and select St. Philip Neri Catholic School as your group. Our 6th graders are already registered.
All Hallow's Eve
All Hallows Eve originated from the Catholic Feast of All Saints on November 1st, serving as a vigil to honor saints and reflect on their intercession. This observance emphasizes the communion of saints and invites believers to emulate their virtues while reinforcing the hope of resurrection and eternal life.
With that in mind, we’re excited for our All Hallows Eve celebration on Saturday, October 26th at 6:00pm! There will lots of candy and much fun! We ask that students avoid dressing as witches, zombies, or mummies, as these can conflict with our beliefs. Instead, we encourage everyone to come dressed as their favorite Saint or Biblical figure. We look forward to seeing the creative saintly costumes our students will come up with! If you are interested in being a "Table Host" (formerly a trunk when we did this outside), please contact PTO President Lecye Lippoldt at lecyedoolen@gmail.com.
Also, we’re excited to announce a pumpkin decorating contest for our All Hallows Eve event! Decorate your pumpkin to celebrate our Catholic faith—think of a saint, holiday, liturgical season, virtue, or sacrament. Bring your pumpkin to school on Friday, October 25th. Carved pumpkins are welcome! Feel free to get creative with paint, beads, glitter, feathers, and more. For inspiration, check out “Catholic pumpkin carvings” online. Have fun and let your creativity shine!
Thank you once again for your incredible support! I am continually amazed by the generosity of our parishioners and school families. We have an outstanding team of teachers and staff at SPN, who pour their hearts and souls into our students every day. I also want to express my gratitude for our amazing students. They are not only well-behaved but also creative, eager to learn, and excited to experience Jesus. It’s been a wonderful first quarter!
As always, we appreciate your prayers—they are coveted. Enjoy your Fall Break!
