MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good afternoon, Abbott Warrior familes, staff, and students!
I hope this message finds you enjoying your Sunday afternoon. There are some very important events taking place this week. Please read on to learn more.
Next week marks the beginning of our IAR testing period. We kindly remind everyone that IAR testing will take place on April 9th, 10th, and 11th, and it is crucial for all students to be present at school on these days. We will begin testing, promplty at 9:00 AM, so please be sure that students arrive on time. IAR assessment is designed to evaluate students' proficiency in meeting the Illinois Learning Standards and utilizes high-quality test questions similar to those used in the past. This assessment spans multiple days (through April 18th), encompassing three units in math and three units in English language arts. It is an opportunity for our students to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities confidently. Additionally, the data gathered from the IAR testing plays a vital role in identifying trends among different student groups, enabling us to provide targeted support and tailor our instruction effectively to ensure every student's success, and also is also sometimes used for student placement. As I have shared earlier this school year, Abbott's current report card rank is Comprehensive. It is crucial that our students are on time for school and in attendance, give their best effort and take ample time, not rush through it, during the assessment. We need to focus on our students showing growth in their learning.
Parents, your partnership is important. Please speak to your children about doing their best on these tests and show us their personal growth in their academic journey. Aditionally, please make sure that your student brings their charged Chromebook to school and their Chromebook charger.
Thank you!
Best Regards,
Principal Zugel

SOLAR ECLIPSE TOMORROW!
On Monday, April 8, 2024. a total solar eclipse will cross over the United States. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. In northern Illinois, there will be a partial eclipse. Changes will become noticeable around 12:30 p.m. Central Time with the height of the eclipse occurring at 2:07 pm.
The Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium has been working with U-46 staff to provide opportunities for employees and students to safely view the eclipse. This includes providing special viewing glasses and training on how to appropriately use them.
Students who have returned permission slips will be able to safely view the eclipse outside with their teacher and classmates. We currently have 237 students without signed permission slips. The only way these students will be able to view the eclipse, is with a signed permission slip. One is attached that you can sign and return to the main office before 10:00 AM, so we have time to update lists and get viewing glasses to teachers. You can also come to the main office or have your student return the permission slip before 10:00 AM.
Thank you!
DRESSING FOR SUCCESS
As the warm weather seems to be here to stay, I just want to remind everyone of the Dress
Guidelines for school.
Students can choose clothing that makes them feel comfortable and safe, as long as it complies
with the following guidelines:
1. Does not depict any violence, hatred, drugs, alcohol, gang affiliation, profanity, sexual, phobic
language or cruelty of any kind
2. Covers all appropriate areas at all times. Appropriate areas include: stomach, chest and sides
(both male and female) and butt/pelvic/upper thigh areas.
3. Items such as tank tops, sleeveless shirts, any type of shorts, coats, jackets, etc. are all
allowed provided they adhere to #2 of this Section. (Low backs are not a problem)
4. Jewelry is allowed, unless it becomes a safety concern.
5. Hats, hoods, and other types of head coverings are not allowed unless required for religious
or medical purposes.
6. Footwear must be worn for health reasons (cannot go shoeless). Due to safety concerns, Flip
Flops and Slides are not to be worn in school.
In the event that a student is not dressed appropriately, students will be provided with an Explore or Middle School Experience t-shirt, and/or parents may be called.
We appreciate your help in following U-46's Dress Code.
