Some thoughts for the starting school year

Welcome
Shevaun Etier, Executive Director
Dear School Community,
As the proud Executive Director of Town & Country School, I am deeply committed to fostering a nurturing and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. At Town & Country, we believe that education is a collaborative journey between students, parents, and educators. Together, we cultivate a strong sense of community that celebrates learning, embraces diversity, values inclusiveness, and promotes mutual respect for all. We recognize that recent developments in our state's education system may have raised concerns. The Oklahoma State Board of Education has proposed new rules regarding immigration, prayer in schools, the Pledge of Allegiance, and curriculum. We are anticipating many more over the next year or so. While Town & Country School is accredited by the Oklahoma State Board of Education, we are not required to implement every new policy set forth by the State Superintendent or the Legislature. As a private institution, we maintain the flexibility to shape our educational approach in a way that best serves our students with learning differences. Our mission remains unchanged: to provide a nurturing, student-centered environment that supports academic, social, and personal growth. This is our vision, our passion, and our promise to you.
Thank you for being part of the Town & Country community. We will continue to navigate these times with a steadfast commitment to our students and families.
Anne Scalet, Lower - Middle School Administrator
I cannot believe that it is already the month of February, and we are almost through three quarters of this school year. It has really flown by so quickly. We have enjoyed many fun things this year already and are looking forward to what has been planned for the last part of the school year.
We started out this month with an all school field trip to the Oklahoma Aquarium. On February 5th, we loaded up on four charter buses and made our way to Jenks for “Symphony by the Sea”. The kids were entertained by the Tulsa Symphony as they performed different aquatic songs to go along with some of the exhibits. They explored the rest of the animals and finished off the field trip by eating lunch at the aquarium. It was a fun, exciting day for our kids.
Our lower school students participated in the “Read Bowl” for four weeks prior to the Super Bowl. It is a nationwide program encouraging all students to read as many minutes as they could. Our students read over 53,000 hours and celebrated their success with an in-class awards assembly.
We anxiously look forward to the things happening in the future. Our lower school students will be attending different performances down at the PAC, and our 6th - 8th graders will be going to Biztown in April to run the different businesses there. They are spending their time from now until April learning how to be store managers, cashiers, product designers among other neat jobs. We are getting ready for “move-up” days where the 6th graders learn the ins and outs of middle school, and the 8th graders begin a new chapter in their lives learning about the transition to high school. Before we know it, the end of the school year will be here. What a wonderful year we have had so far.
Devin Cross, High School Administrator
We officially made it through the longest month of the year, January, which always seems to have at least 492 days! If you believe Punxsutawney Phil’s Ground Hog Day prediction, we still have 6 more weeks of winter, but today it feels like a breath of Spring is in the air and we are looking forward to things happening soon.
We have upgraded our 8-Habits of the Heart donation bin. Mark, a sophomore, completed his Eagle Scout project by designing and building a new donation box. We think it’s amazing! Way to go Mark! Some things to look forward to this spring are: Candy Grams for Valentine’s Day, Prom (A Star is Born – Vintage Hollywood is this year’s theme), Spring Fling, and of course Graduation! Our graduating class of 2025 currently has the following post-graduation plans: 10 to attend college, 2 to attend Tulsa Tech, 2 to attend the 13th year program, 3 to attend a transition program and 3 plan to enter the work force. We are looking forward to celebrating our 20 graduates on Friday, May 16th.

Student and now Staff, Karen Laub - The face that greets you at the front door
Town and Country School meant a lot to me as a student and now as a staff member. The smaller classes and one-on-one help from the teachers and assistants helped me thrive and succeed as a student. Coming back as a staff member and choosing a career at Town and Country School has been a full circle experience. I'm so grateful for the teachers and staff who influenced my life and encouraged me to succeed, and I want to do the same for current students. One of my favorite parts of my job is seeing former students visit and getting to learn about what they are doing in their new journeys of life. Seeing students succeed and graduate from Town and Country School is what it's all about. Greeting students and families each day is the best part of my job, we are truly a family here.
