Library Letters
The library is open! Yay! To ensure students are safe, the library routine may look a little different. Steps will be taken to help ensure the safety and well being of library patrons and staff.
Book Returns:
All returned books will be quarantined for a week, then cleaned before they are available for checkout.
Browsing for Books:
Online: Alexandria Library Researcher: https://granger.goalexandria.com/
Students may see what books are available and put holds on items they would like to check out.
How do students sign in to reserve an item?
Student user information is as follows:
Username: firstandlastname (janedoe)
Password: The last four digits of their student ID (3334)
You may email Mrs.Griffis at dgriffis@granger.txed.net if a student is having difficulty logging in on Alexandria Researcher.
While in the library: Students will be asked to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer before searching for a book. To ease searches, books for elementary are divided by reading levels. Popular books and book series are on display. Grades 5-12 books are divided by genres, with popular series and new books on display.
The library will be cleaned between classes, and again at the end of the school day.
Computers and Laptops:
Computers are still accessible for use in the library. Disinfecting wipes are available and required to wipe down the keyboard, mouse, and surrounding area after each user.
Laptops with chargers have been issued to every student from grades Pre-K-12. Students in grades Pre-K-4 who are attending on campus will keep their laptops at school. The one to one ratio will allow for safe practices, assuring only one student has use of devices. Teachers and students are also cleaning the devices daily.
What will students do during fixed library schedules:
Once a week students in Pre-K - 4th will have Specials in the library. Various activities will include literacy time, library skill lessons, and book checkouts. Grades 3-4 will have time to take Accelerated Reading (AR) quizzes on books read independently or with their teachers.
Grades 5-12 are on a flexible schedule and will be allowed to come as needed. Entire classes will be scheduled through the teacher and library director first.
Library Bags for grades Pre-K-4:
Each of these students will be given a library bag to keep in their backpack. This will hold their library book and help ensure the book is "safe" from snacks and liquids. PLEASE do not throw away the bag!
As the school year progresses, changes may need to be made. Your patience is greatly appreciated as students and staff continue to grow, learn, and adapt. Please remember to periodically check these great resources: School website, school email, Twitter, Facebook, Dojo, and Remind.
