HMS Families,

What a week! It feels like we have been busy every second of the day this week. We had our first home boys basketball games and they were incredibly fun to watch. A huge thank you to our community members who came to support and cheer on our teams.

Today, we were able to take some time to acknowledge student academic achievement. Each teacher nominated two students who exemplified academic achievement, success, and/or effort. Our entire student body and families of students who were nominated listened to each teacher present a meaningful award to their students. A huge congratulations to these students!

Next week is spirit week! These are our favorite because of the creativity of our students. We know many of us are looking forward to the first day - teachers dressing like students and students dressing like teachers. It's going to be great! Students were selected by directors for the ensemble, which included 22 middle schools! They came together on a Saturday for 4 hours of rehearsal and then presented a concert for parents. Congratulations on a job well done!

Alongside ASB, we are excited to bring different monthly campaigns for students each month. This month is a Wellness campaign. This campaign is centered around thinking positivity about ourselves and things we are able to accomplish. This week, students will be asked to think about positive things they bring to our school community. We are excited to hear from our students!

Thank you for your support this week. It was really nice to see the growth from the first games on Monday to a program sweep on Wednesday. Here is the schedule for next week. Please remember there is a gate fee at away games and that there is NO return bus on Monday from La Center.

This is a friendly reminder that it is important for students to keep the protective cases on their school issued Chromebooks to protect them from accidental damage. If you opted into the Hockinson Assurance Program at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, and your student's Chromebook is damaged while any part of the case is off, the cost of repair will not be covered by your assurance as is stated in the exclusions section of the assurance form.

Here is the Hockinson Assurance Program form if you would like to take a closer look at what it offers, including coverage and exclusions. If you opted out of the assurance program at the beginning of the year and would like to have assurance coverage, you can opt-in at any time after your student's Chromebook has been inspected for damage. A paper form can be sent home with your student, or you can make an online payment through InTouch, the HSD payment portal.
