Week 5
September 9 - September 13, 2024
A Message From the Principal
A heartfelt thank you to ALL the parents who made the time to join our Coffee with the Principal on the 5th. If you missed it, here is the recording for your review for what's coming up in September.
A big item that I covered at the coffee meeting that I want to make sure I reiterate is the importance of staying on top of the office/school/teacher correspondences. We are all very busy and have multiple calendars to manage. Timely announcements, deadlines and due dates are important because we want our students to not miss out on anything. Multnomah is a wonderful place with great academics paired with fun activities/events. Immerse your family into being a part of this wonderful Multnomah community by being on top of the events/happenings.
Grandparents Day
Long Version, 7 minutes
Short Version, 2 minutes
Sunday, September 8
I hope that our Grandparents Day celebration brought a bit of happiness to your children's grandparents and they felt the love, warmth and attention that they all so truly deserve. We had about 260 grandparents and great-grandparents RSVP and about 280 showed up. While all are welcome, when you don't RSVP, parents, it makes it very difficult for everyone. Our grandparents are waiting and the children are not sent out of their classroom by their teachers because they were not on the list. Staff then has to run around trying to gather the missing grandchildren to unite with the awaiting grandparents who you did not RSVP for. We would never turn anyone away, but please help us make it efficient and smooth for everyone involved as we hope to keep this tradition going.
Enjoy the video and please accept my apologies if there isn't a photo taken of your grandparent. We tried our best to capture everyone but there was a lot of people.
Happy Grandparents Day to our Grandparents with us and to those watching over us.
A huge THANK YOU to our classified staff for all of their hard work and our parent volunteers: Ms. Susana Dozal, Ms. Benita Vazquez, Ms. Carolina Santiago, and Ms. Britney Jaquez!
Meal Menu
Students are provided free meals daily. If you have a picky eater, please doing either of the following:
1. Download the Yum Yummy app for your phone to view menu options.
2. Click on this link for the daily menus (breakfast, lunch, after school.)
If they are not planning to eat any of the free food, please pack something for them. Our children are at their prime development ages and we want to be sure that everyone is getting the right sustenance for their minds and bodies. Avoid packing the lunch box with items with an overload of sugar or sodium. Our school district does have a no junk food policy that Multnomah fully supports and enforces.
The website allows you to select the date and the time of day of the meal. (See image above.)
iReady Challenge
Monday, September 9th
We are strongly encouraging all of our students to log 50 minutes of reading and 50 minutes of math on the iReady platform each week. Lessons on the platform are connected to grade level goals. While teachers are having students log on during small group time in class, parents should log in each evening to check if students are meeting their goals. Students log into iReady through Schoology.
1. Visit lms.lausd.net
2. Student log in.
3. Click on waffle on upper right hand corner.
4. Select iReady.

Our first round will be from September 9th - October 25th. After the first round, which is 7 weeks long, we will take feedback from the students/parents on continuing activities or bringing in new activities and expand to 1st and kindergarten in the subsequent cycles. Here is the flyer.
Ms. Jennifer will send home a confirmation letter as there is a limit in space capacity for each day.

Here is the flyer going home on Monday, also shown below.

If you have always wanted to be a part of the decision making team at Multnomah, please join us for the SSC orientation this week as Mrs. Hoffer, our Categorical Program Coordinator, explains the role and responsibilities of this council.
It's Hot!
Send water instead of the sugary drinks to combat the heat. We have a water filling station where students are welcome to refill their reusable water bottles.
Weather permitting, morning recess resumes outside for students to run and play. However, if it gets too hot, students will have walking recess or indoor recess. Noon play after lunch will remain in the MPR (multi-purpose room) to ensure students are safe from this heat wave.
Monday: Recess in MPR with Go Noodles and/or Movies, Lunch in MPR with Movie/Student Activity
Tuesday: Recess in MPR with Go Noodles and/or Movies, Lunch in MPR with Movie/Student Activity
Wednesday-Friday, Recess depending on weather at time of break.
Dot Day
Friday, September 13th
International Dot Day encourages us to get our creative juices flowing. Established to celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration, the celebration is easily one of the most fun days of the year! Celebrated by both children and adults, International Dot Day is a day to connect, collaborate, and create. At Multnomah, we invite you to wear anything with dots! Flyer Here and shown below.
Save the Date! Picture Day!
Wednesday, September 18th
On September 18th, it's our Fall Picture Day! Students are not required to purchase anything but we do photograph every single student for their ID and yearbook picture. Please make sure students are camera-ready! You should have received the photo packets last Tuesday. It's a huge sheet with a plethora of options of what you can purchase should you want to. If you haven't seen it, please check your child's backpack. 😀
Multnomah Masked Singers
I will NOT be sending this flyer home because I want it to be a surprise for the students. We are asking parents to join us and be our "masked singers." You will need a costume and a song. Both must be elementary school appropriate.
I will be posting this now and again next month so you can start thinking about participating. If you are a planner like me, you will want to start to look for music and costume ideas. Your inflatable should HIDE your identity. 😆
If interested, you must complete the Google Form entry by November 1st. I am asking you to log in with an email address to complete the survey so that it can send you a receipt of your entry form. On November 6th we will have an informational meeting and on November 22nd, right before our Thanksgiving break, you will be performing for our student body. (Just planting the seed.)
