TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 28
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
Are you patient?
I define patience as the ability to wait on something without getting frustrated. Overall, I feel like I am a patient principal, father, husband, friend, and family member (most the time). My daily work often relies on others to submit their part, so I can submit the totality of the project. Crossing an item off my to do list is rare, however crossing off smaller parts off it is done daily.
Its important to be patient with students and all those involved in their education process. A new mathematical equation is not mastered in a day, passages in a book may need to be read several times before understanding it. Having to remind your son or daughter to read nightly is not unique, but rather the norm. As a K-12 school, we have the privilege of seeing K students turn into young adults in 12th grade. At some point everything “clicks.” For some students, its 2nd grade, for other its 10th grade, but they almost always do. Some parents and teachers may have to wait longer for these things to “click,” but there are always smaller parts that can be checked off.
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” —Confucius

Accreditation
We are honored to share with you that Orlando Science Elementary School, and all schools in our system, received glowing reviews by the Cognia accreditation team. Thank you to everyone who helped with the process directly and indirectly. Even the smallest of kind/positive efforts can make a difference.
From Cognia: In conducting the review, the evaluator identified Noteworthy Practices that reflect significant areas of strength in the work of the institution. Although there are numerous examples of the institution's level of quality, the recognition of Noteworthy Practices reflects the greatest strengths of the institution.
“Orlando Science Schools exhibits a robust culture, nurturing unity, enhancing performance, and instilling a common sense of purpose among its members, facilitating sustainable growth and success. Such a strong organizational culture promotes employee engagement, aligns individuals with shared values and goals, and creates an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and achievement.”

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Rodriguez
This was a fantastic first week back from Spring Break! Our students are continuing to work hard with the UFLI curriculum (Diagraphs) as they practice handwriting and reading. In Social Studies we are learning where we are in the world! In Science we are learning about the different forces that are used for push and pull! Our students enjoyed working together to create the different forces. Our class is super excited to see what we are going to learn in the following weeks to come!
The photos below depict the push and pull motion with our chairs!
FIRST
Nickerson
Welcome back First Graders!
We hope everyone enjoyed their spring break! It’s almost the end of the school year and the students are growing into amazing, future second graders. All of the First-Grade classes are diligently working on their reading and writing skills, preparing for our upcoming Drop Everything and Write in early April and our end of the year assessments. It’s been amazing to see the growth from the beginning of the school year to now! Please make sure to check your emails regularly for teacher correspondence. Many classes are still looking for donations of Solar Eclipse glasses for the upcoming eclipse on April 8th.
This week, Ms. Nickerson’s class has been working on Procedural Writing by explaining through text how to bake cookies! (Maybe we’ll have a cookie party!)
We are also working though our money and time unit in math. The students love having their own clocks at their desks to set the time throughout the school day.
SECOND
Yeaman
Hello Second grade families,
We hope everyone had a relaxing and restful spring break! We cannot believe it is already the fourth quarter. It has been a great year, please check your teacher's correspondence regularly as there are many activities and important dates that will come up during our final quarter. Don't forget that Field Trip permission slips and payment for our Sea World trip are due on Monday, April 1st.
This week, in Mrs. Yeaman's class had a really great time learning about the life cycles of plants and animals. We started growing lima beans and are excited to observe them as they grow into plants. In addition to all the fun we have had in Science we are also working on our data unit in Math. We have been learning how to interpret graphs and have also spent some time interviewing our classmates and creating our own pictographs, bar graphs, and line plots. In reading we are enjoying exploring poetry and how we can combine our understanding of informational text with poetry for more interesting reading.
THIRD
Martin
Welcome back to school.
This week we're learning about how to use text structure and text features to find the central idea of a text in Mr. Martin's class. We're investigating some questions about space and the stars including preparing for the upcoming solar eclipse. We've been learning about how to compose and edit essays with digital tools on our computers.
We're learning about how to graph and interpret data in math class. Our State floats are due on the 3rd and the travel fair will be on the 5th of April.
FOURTH
Mateer
Welcome Back and Exciting Learning Ahead!
Dear 4th Grade Families,
We hope you had a rejuvenating Spring Break! As we step into the 4th quarter, we’re thrilled to welcome our students back to a term full of new learning adventures. In math, we’re diving into the world of decimals—a key concept that will sharpen our students’ precision in mathematics. They’ll learn to add and subtract decimals, which are essential skills for real-world problem-solving.
In science, the focus will be on plant biology. Our young scientists will explore the life cycle of plants, understand photosynthesis, and discover the importance of flora in our ecosystem. Expect your home to turn into a mini laboratory as we encourage hands-on experiments!
A gentle reminder: the BEST writing test is scheduled for next Monday, April 1st. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before and arrives at school ready to do their best. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their writing skills.
Let’s make this quarter the best one yet!
Warm regards, The 4th Grade Team
FIFTH
Saucedo
The 5th grade team would like to extend our gratitude to our OSES families for generously providing viewers for the upcoming Solar Eclipse.
In science, 5th grade students recently delved into the topic of animal adaptations and the ways in which individual differences can influence an organism's chances of survival within a particular habitat. As part of an interactive survival activity, students were tasked with collecting beans using a designated tool that symbolized an animal's structural adaptation.
SPECIALS
Hello from Ms. Knight! I hope you all had a great Spring Break!
It’s tempting to “hit the ground running” after a break. Our teachers and staff started this week by reminding students of routines and procedures.
Part of rebuilding students’ confidence is reminding them what success and accomplishment feel like. Helping students to set academic goals gives students a sense of agency in their own work and can establish relevance and value for the lessons ahead.
The ORCA store has been a great motivator for students who are showing their ORCA Core Values. If you would like to donate, please use the QR code below.
I hope this last nine weeks that we can all work together to help remind our students to show gratefulness, be respectful of our staff and school, to have dedication to work hard and stay strong in the fourth quarter!
Have a great week!
