Counselor Corner
Messages from Ms. McLendon - BHS Counselor:
AP Letters were given to students on 3/7/2024 outlining the AP fees and the AP testing calendar. Exams are $30 per AP test your student takes. These funds are due by May 1, 2024 if your child is AP testing.
Please pay any outstanding OnRamps Dual Enrollment fees by May 1, 2024 as well.
ACC is now offering free college tuition beginning Fall of 2024 for high school graduates, or GED completers. Please visit the following website and see the parent email below for more information.
UIL Academics
The Blanco UIL team traveled to Comfort on Thursday (April 4) for Day 1 of their District Contest and to Llano for Day 2 of the District Contest Friday (April 5). When all of the results were tabulated, the BHS team finished second! The following students qualified for the regional meet in Abilene (April 27).

Exceptional Senior Award
Blanco HS is proud to announce that Katherine (Kate) Capshaw was selected as the recipient of an Exception Senior Award from Texas Congressional District 21 from Congressman Chip Roy. Kate will be recognized at a ceremony hosted by Congressman Roy later this school year. Congratulations to Kate for this well deserved recognition.
Monthly Award Winners
The Blanco ISD Board of Trustees recognizes students and employees for their contributions to their peers, campus, or the district as a whole. For the month of April, the following were selected from BHS:
Landry Meyer - Student of the Month - Landry is involved in several activities at BHS including athletics and FFA where she competes in livestock shows and on teams. Landry inspires others by standig firm in the face of adversity and being flexible enough to juggle her academic demands as well as her extracurricular activities. Congratuations to Landry for being named the BHS Panther of the Month for April!
Dianne Wagenfehr - Staff Member of the Month - Ms. Wagenfher is the cafeteria manager at BHS and is instrumental in helping make sure our students receive high quality meals at school. Ms. Wagenfher pays careful attention to students. She does a great job of noticing when kids are not eating, or owe money and tries to help them. She works with Ms. McLendon to have students who qualify fill out free and reduced lunch application. Ms. Wagenfher cares about BHS students and she helps empower them for success by nourishing their bodies to meet the needs of their day. Congratulations to Ms. Wagenfher for being named the BISD Panther Employee of the Month for April!
Art Contest Winners
BHS Art students competed in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Three Blanco students received awards in the contest.

The first place entry advances to the state contest. Faith Tucker's entry (shown below) will be judged in the state contest and results will be available later this Spring. Congratulations to all of the BHS winners and good luck to Faith at the state contest.
Perfect Attendance
Congratulations to Jacob Johnson. He was one of 64 BHS students with Perfect Attendance for the 5th Six Week grading period. All 64 were put into a random generator and Jacob's name came up to receive a $20 gift card provided by Blanco Methodist Church. Thank you to the Methodist Church for providing the gift cards for the drawings this year.
FFA
The FFA Wildlife Judging Team competed in the Area VII contest in San Angelo (4/15). They qualified for the State Contest to be held in Junction on April 22.
The meat judging team, the poultry judging team, and the entomology team qualified for state at their Area meets previously. Entomology will compete at Texas Tech on April 20. The Meat and Poultry judging teams will compete in College Station on April 27. The Range Judging Team picked up a WIld Card spot at the State meet and will compete at Tarleton State University on April 24. Congratulations and Good Luck to these teams, Mr. Kersten, and Ms. Taylor!

The Track teams will be in Abilene for the Regional Track Meet hosted by Abilene Christian University. The following students qualified for the meet:

Golf
The Boys Golf Team competed in the Regional Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday (April 15-16). They finished 5th. Freshman Noah Gallas narrowly missed out on a trip to the State Tournament. The Girls Golf Team competed in the Regional Golf Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday (April 17-18). The team ended up 7th and Sophia Young qualified for the state tournament as a medalist!
Softball
The softball team traveled to Florence on Monday, April 15 for their final district game before heading into the playoffs. They won the game convincingly to end their district season with a 7-3 record and finishing in second place. They will advance to the playoffs against Wall. The Bidistrict game is scheduled for Friday, April 26 at Llano at 6 PM.
Baseball
Varsity Baseball defeated Comfort 4-3 on Friday (April 12). The JV also defeated Comfort 8-6. The varsity traveled to Florence Monday (April 15) coming away with a win to remain undefeated in district play and in first place. The JV will play Johnson City in a double header April 19. The Varsity and JV will play in Llano April 22 and host Ingram April 26 before heading into the playoffs.
Tennis
Blanco held a pre-district tune up last week. The JV tournament was on April 10 and a Varsity tournament was on April 11. The District Tournament will be in Ingram on April 22 and 23.

Construction Update
The pad is complete for the Educational Center for the Arts. The second round of concrete for the foundation was poured (Wednesday 4/17). Bricks are on site, and the walls of the ECA are going up. The ECA is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2025.
Things are progressing with the field house. Preparations are bring made for the concrete slab to be poured. The field house should be ready early in the upcoming football season.

In an effort to recognize contributions and accomplishments of BHS students and staff, we will be giving shout outs to individuals or groups who have made and impact, represented Blanco HS well, done a good deed, gone above and beyond expectations, extended a helping hand, received an award, or just did something cool. Athletic Tickets
Fans can also download the Home Town Ticketing app to their smartphone and order tickets through the app.
Tickets are usually available for purchase 3-5 days prior to the contest. In person (cash) tickets will not be available at the gate/door.
This will only apply to BISD HOME games. We have no control over how other schools sell their tickets. If other venues require online ticketing, we will provide that information as soon as we have it.
