Remembering Sadie Neddo - Forever Heart of the Game
Sadie was a beloved 3rd year member of the PHS Talonettes who tragically passed away over fall break. The Talonette family take solace in the fact that she was able to spend time with her whole family before her passing. Sadie was the joy and light that spread to everyone around her. The love and kindness she embodied made her an integral part of the Talonette family. As her memory lives on, the Talonettes encourage everyone to live like Sadie. Laugh a little louder, love a little harder, and smile for Sadie. #SmileforSadie

Art Advocacy at WGHS: Students Explore Why Art Matters
In this lesson, WGHS Art students engaged with the theme of art advocacy by addressing the question: "Why is art important?" The class began with a discussion to explore different perspectives on the value of art in society in their new table groups to collaboratively brainstorm and generate ideas. Each group formulated their own answers to the question and moved into the planning and sketching phase, where they designed an advocacy poster. They discussed composition, color, and imagery to effectively communicate their message. The groups chose a media of their choice, such as markers, paint markers, colored pencils, collage, to create their final art advocacy posters. Posters where installed around the school
Embracing Franz Kline
WGHS Art 2 painting students explored the work of focus artist Franz Kline, known for his bold, expressive use of black and white forms. The lesson began with a class analysis of Kline’s work, focusing on his use of composition, abstraction, and gestural line. Next, students experimented with ink on paper, mimicking Kline’s broad, gestural strokes to explore how line, movement, and balance can be achieved with minimal color. This exercise helped them gain a better understanding of Kline’s artistic approach. Finally, students transitioned to creating their own acrylic painting on canvas board. They applied their understanding of Kline’s style by using broad brushstrokes and a limited color palette, focusing on bold composition and expressive mark-making. The resulting paintings reflected their personal interpretation of Kline’s techniques, emphasizing the power of abstraction and expressive lines.

The program encourages parents to be active participants in their child’s musical journey, attending weekly lessons at Jackson and practicing with them daily at home. Right now, the students are mastering the basics - learning how to stand in both rest and playing positions with their homemade box violins and building beautiful bow holds with their practice bows. These early steps help build a strong foundation for their musical growth, and we are thrilled to see their enthusiasm and progress!
