Safety First

As part of the school’s comprehensive Safety Plan, regular drills are scheduled to better prepare our response in a variety of circumstances. Students and faculty participate in fire, lock-down, tornado, earthquake, and bus evacuation drills on a regular basis. Words Matter

To support their vocabulary studies and to expand the words they know, first grade students will participate in Oakview’s annual Vocabulary Parade on Friday, October 23. Students select a vocabulary word, create a costume which represents the word, and parade around the halls to show everyone who they are! Teachers and administration get in on the act too! It’s a wonderful and enriching experience for everyone.

Great Pumpkin Run

No, Charlie Brown is not coming to campus, but Oakview families are invited to come to this year’s Great Pumpkin Run on Friday, October 23, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This will be a “glow run” for all participants. This is not an event where students are dropped off but one where families are encouraged to run, walk, and skip the 1-1.5 mile trail around Oakview’s campus. We hope to see you here!

Garden Workday

After a good night’s sleep from the Great Pumpkin Run, come back on Saturday morning, October 24, to help us paint/seal the new fence surrounding the vegetable garden! This garden workday is schedule from 9:00-11:00. The “W” in Oakview stands for “work as a team” so come on out and grab a brush! See you then.

Thank You

At the October PTA Board meeting, I shared my thanks for the numerous emails, phone calls, and personal comments I have received from parents who are grateful to be a part of the Oakview family. Thank you all for the time you take to share kind remarks about the school with your child’s teachers, with me, or with our staff. We are proud to work with your children as we partner with you making this a “Habitat for Learning.”

Hello, Oakview families! Can you believe that the first nine weeks of school are almost over? October has been busy so far for PTA! We enjoyed perfect weather last week for our Boosterthon Fun Run! And, once again, the students had a blast - especially the 4th and 5th graders who earned a "color run!" We appreciate all of the volunteers and cheerleaders who came out to support the run! PTA will be processing the pledges over the next few weeks and will look forward to sharing our school's success soon! Next, we will be gearing up for our annual fall festival, the Hootenanny! The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. For over 50 years Reflections has allowed students to explore their creativity and talents through various art forms. Inspired each year by a specific theme, students may submit entries in Literature, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, Film Production, and Music Composition.

This year’s theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly”.
Deadline for entries are October 13 and 14 from 7:30-8:30 am and 2:30-3:30 pm in the cafeteria.

Reading Is So Much Fun, You’ll Get GOOSEBUMPS!
Please plan to join us at the Fall Book Fair. Opening day is Monday, October 26 and the fair will continue through Friday, October 30. This is a wonderful opportunity to build personal and classroom libraries. All proceeds from the Book Fair benefit our Media Center so please consider supporting this important event!

Oakview is participating in the Keep America Beautiful Recycle Bowl Competition Monday, October 12 - Friday, November 13.

There will be weekly classroom winners and weekly grade level winners, as well as two (K - 2 & 3 - 5) grand prize winners!

Help Oakview recycle more than anyone else in South Carolina!

Can you believe we are halfway into October already? The Hootenanny preparations continue...
In order to make this year’s Hootenanny a success, we need families to donate some items that will be used for the attractions, bake sale, cake walk and cake decorating contest. All non-perishable items are due beginning Monday, October 19. Baked Goods and cakes can be dropped off the morning of the Hootenanny.

We will be collecting donations for the RAFFLE the week of October 19 - October 23. All donations can be brought to the stage in the cafeteria. If you would like us to do the shopping for you and would like to make a monetary donation, all checks should be made payable to Oakview PTA. We have already received exciting items from the community. They include...The Greenville Drive, Children's Museum of the Upstate, Clemson University, and more! Thanks so much for your support!!

The holiday season is quickly approaching and so is the opening of this year’s Elf Shelf Holiday Store. The Elf Shelf is an opportunity for your child to shop and purchase gifts for loved ones from Oakview’s Holiday Store. The items for sale range from $1.00-$5.00 and your child may purchase two items. A letter will come home soon with your child explaining more of details based on your child's selections.

Elf Shelf will be open Tuesday, December 15 – Thursday, December 17. On these days, your child will shop with their class at their designated time. On Friday, December 18, the Elf Shelf will be open for your child to purchase additional gifts, if desired, during designated times so watch for announcements.

We hope this holiday season brings peace and joy to you and your families!
