FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome Silver Lake Families!
My name is Theresa Campbell and I’m proud to be the principal of Silver Lake Elementary. This is a special year as it marks my 30th year in public education and fourth year leading our Mustangs! Joining me as assistant principal this year is Catarino Rodriguez who will be sharing his time between Silver Lake and Monroe Elementary. We are thrilled to have his leadership in the assistant principal role.
At Silver Lake Elementary we believe every student matters and are committed to developing the academic and social emotional skills of each child. Our school mission is: Silver Lake Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, is dedicated to preparing each student for academic, social, and personal success through individualized, relevant, rigorous, aligned, and engaging instruction through the lens of equity.
Silver Lake Elementary is home of the Mustangs and we are proud to serve our students and families as a learning community. We encourage all parents/guardians to take an active part by supporting their child’s work at home and communicating regularly with teachers and, when appropriate, the school counselor and principals. Throughout the year we will host family engagement events such as the Open House, Multicultural Night, SLAM Night (Science, Literacy, Art & Math), and more. We warmly invite you to join us and learn more about our Silver Lake learning community.
Also please consider joining us at Silver Lake as part of our PTA, Natural Leaders, Watchdogs, and other volunteer opportunities. Working as a team will ensure that all students receive the best education possible.
Our staff of highly dedicated professionals is looking forward to a rewarding year. Returning or new, we welcome you to Silver Lake Elementary. The Silver Lake Elementary School motto is: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Kind. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us live this motto every day.
In Partnership,
Silver Lake Principal, Theresa Campbell
FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Welcome back Mustangs,
I am excited to be a part of your community and can’t wait to get know everyone. Many of my newsletter blurbs will focus on either safety or attendance. As we begin the school year I want us to begin to focus on the importance of attendance. There is a huge social and emotional benefit to maintaining regular attendance at school.
Research has shown the following benefits from consistent and on-time attendance including:
•Sleeping and eating patterns are stabilized with good effects on health.
• A predictable schedule builds the child’s confidence at home and school.
• Children know what to expect in the classroom because they were there the previous day.
• Children recognize they are part of a community; their peers and teacher expect and include them and miss them when they are gone.
• Ongoing, extended conversations and learning can be built upon.
• Children learn to increasingly control their emotions simply by being in a consistent environment and on schedule every day.
• Teachers spend less time “catching them up” and more time building on what they learned the day before.
• Parents and families feel more a part of the school community and can support and engage with each other.
As always, we know things occur in life and missing school can’t be avoided. However, it is important that we do our best to have our children at school. If there is anything that is affecting attendance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rodriguez
Assistant Principal

EPS and SLE cell phone policy: What families/students need to know
Did you know Everett Public Schools implemented our cell phone policy and procedure in 2019? The policy, which is designed to support an engaging learning environment, applies to cell phones as well as all personal electronic devices (PEDs) such as earbuds and smartwatches. Below is a breakdown of what families and students need to know as we start the school year.
At Silver Lake Elementary:
- During the hours of 8:50a.m. to 3:30p.m. (or respective dismissal time): Cell phones/PED will be turned off and strored in backpacks. Students should not use these personal devices during the school day.
- Communicating with your child during the school day: If a student needs to contact a parent/guardian, they can do so through the classroom/school office phone. Likewise, parents/guardians can call the office for any urgent messages.
Disciplinary action: If a cell phone/PED is seen or used during the day, school staff will hold it in the office where a parent or guarding will need to pick it up during office hours. Repeated violations may lead to further consequences.
Special accommadations will be made if a PED is part of a student's Individualized Education (IEP), 504 Plan, or Individual Health Care Plan (IHP).

FROM YOUR COUNSELORS
Hello Silver Lake Families!
My name is Colin Webb, and I am the new full-time school counselor at Silver Lake. My goal is to ensure that your students are supported, in and out of the classroom, and encouraged to take agency in their own education.
I grew up and currently live in the Shoreline area, north of Seattle. I attended Seattle Pacific University at the undergrad and graduate levels, earning my Master’s Degree in School Counseling, and have worked with youth, from kindergarten through 12th grade, in various capacities for over 10 years. When I am not at school, I enjoy watching movies, reading, and listening to music.
I look forward to learning and growing at Silver Lake and getting to know the community. Please feel free to reach out.

Hi Mustang Families!
I'm Katie Seaward, the new part-time school counselor here at Silver Lake Elementary. I'm thrilled to join the Mustang family and support you and your students this school year.
Whether it's in the classroom, on the playground, at our Mustang Café, or at home, I'm here to help your child feel empowered, confident, and supported. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me in person, by email, or by phone.
A bit about me: I earned my Master's in School Counseling from SPU in 2010. After spending time at home with my two kids (a daughter entering 8th grade and a son entering 5th), I returned to the classroom. I've previously worked as a substitute teacher in the Snohomish School District and as a school counselor at Glacier Peak High School.
When I’m not at school,, you can find me enjoying time with my family, taking walks with my two dogs (Dash and Cookie), reading, doing art, and exploring the great outdoors.
I'm excited to be part of the Silver Lake community and look forward to working with you all!
Warmly,
Katie Seaward, School Counselor

Sign up your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student for Silver Lake’s Soccer Club!
Silver Lake Elementary’s Soccer Club season is starting soon, and this year, the sign up process is digital only! New this year: soccer participants will be selected via a lottery system in order to limit the amount of participants within the program for the safety of the coaches and students. All students currently enrolled at SLE in grades 3, 4, and 5 are invited to apply to participate in the free, 1-hour after school program each Wednesday, beginning September 25th for 8 weeks. This recreational, non-competitive club is held outside on the school playfields. Soccer Club seeks to teach ball handling skills, teamwork, and promote healthy exercise for our secondary elementary students. After club transportation is not provided. The Concussion Information and Soccer Club Permission Slip are due by Wednesday, September 18th and can be accessed here or by scanning the QR code. Completion of permission slip does not guarantee your child’s spot in Soccer Club. Communication of students’ acceptance will go out on Friday, September 20. For more information about SLE’s Soccer Club, read the full description and view the season’s calendar within the Permission Slip form. For all other questions, contact the front office at (425) 385-6900, Coach DeVine (adevine@everettsd.org), or Coach Bekris (abekris@everettsd.org). Let’s go Mustangs!

Family Support
Welcome back and happy September! I would like to introduce myself, I am Mrs. Osborn and I am the Family Support Specialist here at Silver Lake Elementary and I enjoy helping families thrive. There are lots of upcoming opportunities for eligible families at Silver Lake to keep watch for concerning backpacks, clothing and/or food.
- Weekend Food Program: If your family qualifies for our KIT program (Kids in Transition-meaning families who are homeless, or in a temporary living situation due to economic circumstances) or EBT benefits, then you qualify for your child at Silver Lake to receive 1 bag of food per child attending silver lake every Friday. Be on the lookout for sign-up forms in your student's backpack or you can contact me at Bosborn@everettsd.org. The start distribution date is Friday, October 4th. Please sign up only if you are eligible and in need of food for your child/children.
- Clothing Program: For eligible families, your child can receive a free bag of new clothing via Operation School Bell. Be on the lookout for Operation School Bell clothing sign-up forms to send back to your teacher. Your child will have an opportunity to ride the bus to go pick out clothing in Everett. If your child cannot attend the field trip, then there will be another field trip scheduled, or I will pick up the bag of clothing and send home with your child (1 bag per child at Silver Lake who is eligible and clothing is available from September 2024 to February 2025). Field trip sign-up forms will be sent home soon, please get them back to me as soon as possible. The dates/times will be on the forms sent home.
- If you are eligible and your child is in need of a backpack, please contact me or let the office know.
- We would love to have dads or granddads come be a WatchDog volunteer. To sign up, please contact me at Bosborn@everettsd.org.
As the Family Support Specialist, I am also the contact person for when families become homeless, or when students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence and may qualify for KIT. KIT works to help reduce barriers to students’ enrollment, academic success, and participation. If you have any questions, give me a call at 425-385-6940 or email Bosborn@everettsd.org
PTA NEWS
Hello SLE Families,
Welcome back from summer break, I hope it was enjoyable for everyone. The PTA is super excited to be back and we are ready to make this year the best one yet! We have a lot of fun events that we will host- including a trunk or treat, our second Winterfest, school dance, and more!
This year the PTA is also hosting our own Fun Run in October, without the support of a 3rd party company. This means or school gets to keep 100% of our donations! Last year we raised $30,000, before paying the 3rd party, so this year we have upped our goal to $40,000. We plan to use these funds to cover the cost of transportation to send each grade level on a field trip this year, as well as fund our staff and grade level grants, and of course bring all these fun enriching events to our community, just to name a few! We want to thank all our families in advance for your support during this fun run season.
Calling all corporate friends-
We are currently looking for sponsors to help cover the costs for our student’s Fun Run shirts. If you know anyone that would like to Sponsor our event, we are offering to put their corporate name on the back of our shirts for a $300 donation. If you know anyone interested, have them email Ashley at sleptapresident1@gmail.com
Volunteer
We have a live SignUpGenius for all this year’s PTA events. Anyone interested in donating 30-90 minutes of there time can sign up on the hyperlink attached here! We will continue to add events to this page for more opportunities later in the year. We thank all volunteers for being a part of our amazing crew!
Givebacks
We are excited to introduce Givebacks! This is our new PTA website. This site also provides us with a storefront and a fundraising platform. You will see this used on multiple occasions during the school year. Be patient as we are adding more to it every week, but we promise it will provide you with all the PTA information you will need to stay up to date. You can purchase this year’s PTA membership or visit our website at https://silverlake.givebacks.com/
PTA Member Meeting!
Our first meeting of the year will be on September 18th at 6:30 pm in the school Library. We will be reviewing this year’s budget and making any needed adjustments Child care and snacks will be provided, as well as an option to Zoom in. You can find our full PTA meeting schedule and Zoom link on our GIVEBACKS Website

ATTENDANCE
If your student is absent or tardy from school, please email the attendance office at sleattendance@everettsd.org to let us know the reason for the absence or tardy.
- Absences must be reported (by email or note) within 30 calendar days after a student returns back to school, not including Holidays or weekends, in order to have the absence excused. Emails or notes turned in past the 30-day timeframe will be accepted; however, the absence is not excused and will be coded as such.
- Automated attendance calls will be sent out daily. If your student will be absent or tardy you must notify the office before 9:15 a.m. If it is reported after this time you may receive the automated call.
- Please view the Everett School District Attendance Procedure 3122P for more information (including definitions of absences).
- Did you have a medical appointment for your child, or they were sick, and you brought them to the doctor? If so, make sure to ask for a medical note from the provider. Email or bring the note to the attendance office so those absences can be coded as a medical note excused absence.
- Please fill out a prearranged absence form if your student will be going on vacation/traveling or will miss school for an extended period of time. As per district policy, the principal or designee may excuse up to five (5) school days for a prearranged absence per student each school year.
