Polar Bear Foundation
Sporting Clays Fundraiser
The Polar Bear Foundation put together a Sporting Clays fundraiser at Central Penn Sporting Clays on November 16th, 2024. The weather was fantastic with some light winds throwing the clays around in the air for some extra challenge. The turnout was good with experienced and new shooters alike, both trying their skills, and all for a good cause.
The G force security team was out. You may recognize some of your School Security Officers out of uniform. A great time was had supporting a good cause as a sponsor. The Mission BBQ lunch afterward was also a welcome addition to the day.

Building Trades Career Fair
On Wednesday November 6th, 2024, twenty NHS students went to York to attend a Building Trades Career Fair. Students had the chance to talk to companies about work experience, internships, and apprenticeships, and how to be prepared for a career in the Building Trades. They even tried some wiring and plumbing! Multiple companies followed up to say Northern students stood out as being qualified, professional, and passionate. They were so impressed; some future job offers were given! Excellent job representing Northern and working so hard!
Miller Plant Farm Annual Interscholastic Art Competition
Senior members of Northern’s National Art Honor Society are competing in the Miller Plant Farm Annual Interscholastic Art Competition this year. Maddie Zarate, Lisa Alizada, Morgan Keefer, Monse Ramirez, and Maya Jacobs are working collaboratively to create a 6’x6’ acrylic painting of a winter farm scene. The painting will be on display at Miller Plant Farm, 430 Indian Rock Dam Road, York from Saturday, November 30th, 2024, through Saturday, December 14, 2024. During this time, stop by Miller Plant Farm to view all the beautiful festive paintings created by young local artists. For just $0.50 per ballot, a vote can be submitted for your favorite art mural, with proceeds benefiting the winning school's art department! MPF will also donate to the winning school. If you cannot make it out, online voting will be available as well during the competition. Details for online voting will be shared later. This year’s competition has the greatest number of schools participating, including Dallastown, Delone Catholic, Hanover Public, Northeastern, Northern York, Red Lion, South Western, Susquehannock, West York, William Penn, York Suburban, & York Country Day.
Grand Re-opening of The Bear's Den
On Friday, November 15th, 2024, Mrs. Lowery’s 5th period Entrepreneurship class held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand re-opening of the school store. Known as the Bears’ Den, the store offers spirit apparel along with school supplies for high school students. From this point forward, Bears’ Den will be open every Thursday and Friday before school and during all lunch periods. We are designing and purchasing new apparel, so stay tuned for fresh styles that reflect our school spirit. Do not miss out—visit the Bears’ Den today and gear up for a fantastic school year! The Bears’ Den is also working on a way to sell to the community. Stay tuned for updates on how you can purchase apparel from us.
Nolan is wearing our new PJ pants ($25.00) and Northern Nation t-shirt ($15.00), which will be available to purchase very soon.
Guest Speakers Wanted
The high school counselors are looking for guest speakers to volunteer time to present their career to high school students during their Flex Period (2:10 PM - 2:40 PM). One of the reasons Flex was added was to allow time where students could focus on career exploration. Last year, speakers included a State Trooper, the military, a real estate professional, a doctor, a registered nurse, and an engineer. Students sign up for career presentations based on interest. The presentations are given in a classroom and typically range from 10 to 20 students. The counselors would love to offer more opportunities this school year. If interested in volunteering your time to talk about your job/career, please click on this link and fill out a short form. Someone from the high school will reach out to set up a time to visit.

Inclement Weather School Closing and Delays for 2024/2025
When weather conditions dictate that unscheduled closings, delays, or early dismissals are in the best interest of student and staff safety, the District will use several communication channels to notify parents, students, and staff as quickly as possible. Notifications for each weather-related event will specify whether extracurricular activities including athletic games and practices will be canceled for the day.
Communication:
- Blackboard Alert Messaging System – Notification will be sent via automated phone calls and emails
- District Website – Information will be posted as an on-screen alert when you visit the District website at www.northernpolarbears.com
- Social Media – Information will be shared on the District’s Twitter feed @NorthernYorkSD
- Other – Details will also be reported to local radio and television stations
School Closing Directions:
- For the first winter-weather closing, students and staff will have a “traditional snow day” – that is, there will be no instruction and all students and staff will simply be off. This first snow day will not need to be made up by students.
- For the second and additional winter-weather closings, we will have virtual snow days – that is, instruction will take place at home and will be provided through remote learning. Each principal will be following up with families about what instructional delivery will look like on virtual snow days.
Wishing everyone a safe and fun winter season.
