Principal's Message
Dear West TV Families,
Thank you for all your support of the All Star Dash! It was wonderful to see so many of you come and cheer on the students and staff - and even joining in the fun walking and running alongside them! The students gave it their all and had fun too!
No School Days in October
There is no school on October 11 (Staff Development Day) or on October 25 (Teacher Grading Day).
Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences - Save The Date
The students have settled in and there is exciting learning happening in classrooms! In a couple of weeks you will receive an email from your child's teacher requesting that you sign up for a Fall Parent/Teacher Conference on either November 13 (evening only) or 14 (day or evening). There will be no school for students on November 14 & 15.
Picture Day is October 22nd - Save The Date
Look for a picture packet from Dorian Photography to come home this week in your student's backpack.
Below is an update from the All Star Dash team - thank you again for all your support!

All Star Dash Update
Great news West TV community - we reached our main fundraising goal of $43,000 while all of the students were running on Friday, and we are rapidly approaching and sure to surpass our
s-t-r-e-t-c-h goal!
Our fundraising really took off last week as we approached the All Star Dash on Friday. Our current funds are $47,053 in Pledgestar. We are thrilled and humbled and grateful!
In just 3 short weeks our community fully funded all teacher support, student enrichment, and community involvement activities and events for the entire school year. Thanks to your generosity we have also almost reached our stretch goal to provide our library with non-fiction books. Non-fiction books are the books students love to read most when they go to the library!
Please turn in your pledge packets and pledges as we will continue to collect pledges through October 11th as planned. The Dash Team is now busily preparing for our Dash Awards Assembly on October 18th.
Our West TV community is strong and committed to our educators and students. Together, we have knocked it out of the park! Thank you for your amazing support!
Your West TV PTC and All Star Dash Team
Message from the School Nurse
Hi West TV Families,
We have been informed of unusually high number of students sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Washington County is directing West TV Elementary regarding individuals out sick with diarrhea and vomiting. The cause of the illness is not yet known, but may be norovirus (stomach flu).
To reduce the spread of the stomach flu, Washington County Public Health recommends:
· Stay at home when ill.
· Any student or staff having symptoms of vomiting and/or diarrhea should not attend school, activities, or work until 24 hours after symptoms are gone.
· Wash hands often with soap and water. Always wash hands after using the toilet, and before eating or preparing food.
· Do not share or prepare food until 72 hours after symptoms are gone.
· Wash contaminated clothing or linens in hot water. Machine dry thoroughly.
· Immediately clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces after vomiting or diarrhea.
For disinfection, prepare a bleach solution by mixing 1-cup concentrated bleach (or 1 ½ cups regular strength) with one gallon of cool water. Remake every 24 hours.
*Cautions: Do NOT mix liquid bleach with other cleaning products, toilet bowl cleaners or ammonia, which may release hazardous gases into the air. Bleach may discolor fabrics.
Thank you for your help and attention of the matter.
Jennilyn Vowell - West TV School Nurse
Walk and Roll to School Day is coming - Wednesday, October 9th!
We will be celebrating International Walk + Roll to School Day at West TV on October 9th!
This is a great chance to get your child excited about active transportation. Getting exercise in the fresh air is the best way to get mentally and physically prepared for the day. Mark your calendar and plan your route!
Make sure routes are timed to allow students to arrive at school between 7:30-7:45. If they'll be biking, scootering or skating, the wheels need to be walked on school property. Live too far away to walk? Parking at the top of 88th and Stark is just under a half mile walk down to school.

Answer the Call for Beaverton schools!
It’s calling season! Between October 7-15, over 300 Beaverton School District high school students will volunteer their time and energy to reach nearly 20,000 community members during the Beaverton Education Foundation’s annual student-volunteer calling event.
Students participating in Answer the Call enhance and refine communications and marketing skills during all five call nights. These practical life and work skills are a bonus that students and future employers both value.
If you see “Beaverton Education Foundation” on your caller ID in October, please answer the call!

Important Information Regarding Absence Reporting & Changes in Going Home Plans
THIS INFORMATION HAS NOT CHANGED FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR
In order to ensure that absences are reported correctly and that all staff are aware of where students are expected to go at the end of each day, please read all of the information below.
Absence Reporting
Report all student absences directly to the office this year (please do not email your child’s teacher to report an absence). You can use one of 3 ways to report an absence, including a new school website feature that is quick and easy to use.
Option 1: Call the main office at 503-356-2510 and press 1 to leave a voicemail message.
- Option 2: Submit the absence in ParentVue before 7:45am (it will not accept it after 7:45am).
Option 3: Submit the absence on the West TV school website.
Reporting an absence on the West TV Website:
If you scroll to the bottom of the screen on the West TV website, you will see the option to click on “Report an Absence”. Please fill out all required boxes and submit. It will automatically send the absence notification to the office. As always, please include a note with the reason for the absence. If your student is ill, please include their symptoms. As stated above, we’re asking that parents no longer report student absences directly to their child’s teacher. Teachers are unable to excuse student absences, only the office is able to do so.
Going Home Plan Changes
Report all going home plan changes only to the office (please do not email your child’s teacher with a change in going home plans). The information will be forwarded to teachers by the office staff. We strongly encourage parents to keep their student’s going home plan changes as consistent as possible throughout the year.
Option 1: Submit a request to change your student’s going home plans by going to the West TV school website. See below for more information.
Option 2: Call the school office; however, if you do not speak to someone in the office directly, please don’t leave a message and call again later.
Reporting going home plan changes on the West TV Website:
This is located next to the Absence Reporting option at the bottom of the West TV website. You will fill out all required information and submit. If there is anything that the office needs to know, for example, the name of the person picking up your student or the name of the daycare they attend, please include those details in the note box. Please submit the change to the office as early in the day as possible.

Andy Owens passed away in 2017.
All families are welcome to use the Little Free Library - donate a book, take a book or both!
At West TV we aspire to develop empowered lifelong learners who make a positive difference in the global community.
