West Belmar
WB In the Bear Cave
October 2024
A Message From Principal Abeal
Dear West Belmar Parents,
October is here and there are many autumn activities for the “Bear Cubs” to enjoy.
The West Belmar Fire Department will be discussing fire safety with our students. The discussion includes designing a fire safety plan for your home, who to call and what steps to follow in case of a fire.
The PTA will be sponsoring the fall Book Fair on the 7th - 10th of the month. Here are a few helpful hints when selecting books at the Book Fair. Find and select books your child will love, keep in mind your child's age, child's interests, child's recent experiences and your child's reading level, but don't over-emphasize this. If your child can read the first page aloud to you, chances are he or she can read the entire book. Lastly, help your child start their own library or give a book as a gift.
The kindergarten will be visiting Allaire Community Farm to learn about life on a farm, go for a hayride, interact with farm animals and even see how a farm operates! In social studies the 3rd grade has been learning about the people, places in their community. They will visit Allaire State Park as a culminating activity to this unit of study.

The 5th grade morning helpers have been filling the morning airwaves with the school the word of the week and positive messages. These announcements are filled with many important messages for our students to think about. We will also feature the 7 Mindsets as a special morning quote and positive messages during the weeks of Respect and Unity Week.
Please check the West Belmar Website regularly to stay informed with all the school’s activities and programs.
The month will end with the annual celebration of Halloween. This is a good time to discuss Halloween safety with your children. The parade is scheduled to begin approximately 1:45 on the 31st. At the conclusion of the parade, the students will go back to their classrooms for their Halloween festivities.
The month of October will be filled with many fun fall activities.

Food Services
Free & Reduced Lunch Packet
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Children need healthy meals to learn. The Wall Township Board of Education offers healthy meals every school day at the prices listed on the WTPS website. Your children may qualify for free or reduced price meals and Summer EBT benefits.
The printable packet includes an application for free or reduced price meal benefits/ and a set of detailed instructions. For a convenient way to fill out the meal application go to https://www.payschoolscentral.com. WTPS utilizes PaySchools as an online lunch account for children to use to purchase lunch on a daily basis.
If your child received federal free or reduced price school meals during the 23-24 school year, please remember you need to complete a new application for the 24-25 school year prior to October 15, 2024.
If you choose to opt out from completing the meal application, you may fill out the linked Google Form.
If your children receive federal free or reduced price school meals, they may also be able to receive free or low-cost health insurance through Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare. Children with health insurance are more likely to get regular health care and are less likely to miss school because of sickness.
Because health insurance is so important to children's well-being, the law allows us to tell Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare that your children are eligible for free or reduced price meals, unless you tell us not to. Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare only use the information to identify children who may be eligible for their programs. Program officials may contact you to offer to enroll your children. Filling out the School Meals and Summer EBT Application does not automatically enroll your children in health insurance.
If you do not want us to share your information with Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare, you will have the option if submitting the meal application online via PaySchools or you may fill out the printable form and send in (Sending in this form will not change whether your children get free or reduced price meals).
Thank you for your cooperation.
