A MESSAGE FROM CYMS
Greetings CYMS Families,
Our first Fun Friday was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see so many students making connections with one another and enjoying the various activities. Thank you to our Student Council and PTO for planning the event! For those who were able to volunteer or donate, thank you! We couldn't do it without you. We’re excited to continue the momentum with more engaging and fun events planned throughout the school year. See photos below.
As a reminder, Fall Intramurals begin this week. If your child is participating, please sign their permission slip and coordinate how your student will be transported home.

SCHOOL NEWS
IMPORTANT STUDENT PICK UP REMINDER
If your child needs to be picked up early from school, the adult picking them up must be listed in your child's Skyward account. If they are not listed, the parent must notify the school office in advance via phone, email, or written note.
To avoid any delays, please take a moment to update your child's emergency contact information in Skyward. This will ensure a smooth and safe pickup process.
JOIN THE PANTHER PEN STAFF!
Creative students who like to write and keep up with school happenings are invited to join our middle school staff that designs the annual yearbook and helps with school email updates. We meet after school two Tuesdays per month to apply our talents and skills on these real-world products. To join, fill out the application on this form or look for the QR code on the morning slides. Questions? Contact Mrs. Brown in room 12 on Team Ocelot or Mrs. Carlisle in room 9 on Team Cheetah.
CYSD DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN
Central York School District offers optional protection plans for your child’s district-issued devices.
The protection plan fully covers your child’s device for any accidental damage that occurs. The cost is $25 per year for iPads and $60 per year for Macbooks.
SAFETY AND TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES
Central York School District is excited to announce that we have partnered with Linewize by Family Zone, a leading education technology company, to provide District families and students with the highest quality of online safety and digital wellness education.
As members of the Central York Community, you have access to an Online Safety Hub, as well as free parent/guardian access to the Qustodio App, a parental control app that allows families insight and control of their child’s device usage.
Qustodio App
The Qustodio App allows parents access to monitor and supervise their child’s time online. By signing up, parents can monitor their child’s activity on their school-issued device, as well as up to two additional personal devices at no cost.
The app enables parents to:
- Receive reports and alerts on your child’s school-time activity
- Enable and disable internet access
- Receive guidance and tips on digital guides and threats
Access to features on your child’s school-issued device will be effective during non-school hours. Usage on two free personal devices is 24/7. Parents must use the email associated with their Skyward account.
Online Safety Hub
The Online Safety Hub includes helpful parent advice guides, app and game reviews, online safety quizzes, resources, and access to information about the Qustodio App.
HEALTH RECORD UPDATE: DENTAL EXAM
In 7th grade, all students are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have proof of a dental visit. Your child’s school health record may be missing this documentation. If you have not already done so, please provide proof of a private dental exam for the 7th grade school year to fulfill this state requirement.
Private Dental Exam Instructions: Please download and return the private dental form below after your dentist has completed it. It can be faxed to the Middle School FAX 717-755-5914. Any visit in the past year can count. For example: a dental visit in the past year while your child was still in 6th grade can be used to fulfill this requirement.
Thank you in advance for allowing us to help keep your child healthy! We look forward to updating their school health record and assisting you as needed. Please contact the health office with any questions or concerns at 717-846-6789 ext. 1520, or bkopelic@cysd.k12.pa.us.
Respectfully,

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHTS
MS. SMELTZER'S 8TH GRADE SCIENCE
Students practice making accurate and precise measurements while rotating through a variety of stations. They also review converting their measurements to metric units.
MR. HEISEY'S 8TH GRADE SCIENCE
In Mr. Heisey’s 8th-grade science class, students investigated a mystery mixture to see what two substances it could possibly be made of. They will continue to run tests on this mixture to determine what two substances Mr. Heisey mixed together.
MR. DECKER'S TECH ED
Before eighth graders begin the clock project, Mr. Decker introduces them to the machines and discusses how to use the various tools safely. Students had a chance to try the different skills during the lesson as one Cheetah uses the disc sander under Mr. Decker's guidance.
ATHLETICS
ATHLETIC EVENTS REMINDERS
All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times when attending any CYSD after-school athletic event. As a reminder, if you are planning to attend a high school football game, students are not permitted to bring backpacks or any other unnecessary items into the football stadium at the high school.
CYMS FOOTBALL
We will open up the season with a game on Thursday at Home vs. Spring Grove at 4:00 pm. A food truck will be at the field to provide concessions. Come out and support the players!
All elementary/middle school students planning to watch the game need to go home after school and can return accompanied by an adult.
CYMS FIELD HOCKEY
The field hockey team had two away games last week at Manheim Township and New Oxford. Alaina Birnie, the goalie for the A team, played two amazing games, saving 20 goals from being scored. The B team tied both games 0-0.
The team will play again on Monday (9/9) at West York. They will play their first two home games on Wednesday and Thursday at 4:15. The team plays at the high school behind the baseball field. Come out to show your support!
CYMS CROSS COUNTRY
Best wishes to the boys & girls XC teams at their first season meet on Wednesday at New Oxford. Students are dismissed at 2:15 and will depart at 2:30 p.m.
