Crocker Principal's Message
Dear Viking Families,
I'm often asked how our students are doing now that we are back to school? Our students are thriving and adapting. They are eager and joyful to be back with their peers. Yet, they also navigate an extended day, homework, extracurricular activities, and shifting peer relationships, navigating all the typical middle school peaks and valleys with the added layer of our pandemic world.
As educators and parents, we help our young people to thrive. Young people with good problem-solving skills excel and thrive in their learning and social situations. To support your child to be a strong problem-solver, model for them how you solve your problems. For example, are you a list maker? Do you prioritize your task? Do you do the most challenging task first or last? Do you set time-bound goals to complete each task? Help your child brainstorm ways to take positive action steps to solve their problem. Providing parental support means trying our best to guide our children to develop a solution rather than solving the problem for them. Although they may not show it or express their gratitude, your child will appreciate your willingness to listen and your ability to help them build their problem-solving skills.
How are our students doing? They are working in teams and pairs in our classrooms. They are remembering to charge their Chromebooks. They are playing together on our playground and eating lunch outside. They are learning to clean up after themselves at lunchtime. They are rushing to the field on Gold days to join an intramural game. They are attending outdoor assemblies for student council class representatives. They are meeting new friends. They are synthesizing information and sharing their learning using technology. They are doing science labs, making art, and making music. They are listening to Crocker Radio in the courtyard. They are cheering on their grade-level teams for class competition points. They are makers in our Maker space. They are thriving!
Best regards,
Maria Brady

HTV parent volunteers
We’re very excited our students are able to get back onto the field, courts, play music (outside) and dance again (Cotillion, outside). In order to capture all these memories, HTV needs your help.
Under current guidelines, parent volunteers can help us film outside. Our goal is to capture some footage from at least EVERY Crocker team for all grades and other major events such as Cotillion, Fly-offs, and Turkey Trot to name a few. Some of this video might be seen on HTV —and some of it gets saved for their 8th grade memory video. We’re lucky that we have at Crocker Jeremy Slater, HTV Media Coordinator, to film much of our Crocker events. Unfortunately, he’s only one person and can’t film them all. It’s not as daunting as it sounds. I know many of you record on your iPhone BUT your shaky iPhone video won’t work for us. We really need footage from a steady camera on a tripod.
The good news is HTV has the equipment for you. When you pick it up from Jeremy Slater’s office, he will have it ready to go. Camera on the tripod. SD card in the camera. Easy, peasy! We can even offer quick training on how to hit “record” and how to get the best footage possible.
The advantage of playing all games in house at the moment—one parent can cover two teams! You can even pick the game you want to cover. We offer flexibility!
Please email us if you would consider picking up a camera and filming at one of the games or events you’re already planning on attending for your child.
Kindly,
Your HTV Crocker Chairs
