Knowing Every Student by Name and Need!
Our language arts classes are working hard to meet each student at their level. We want to both support struggling learners and extend the learning for those that need it daily. Below are some examples from our language arts classrooms from the last couple of weeks.
In 6th grade ILA, students have been focused on making connections and finding text evidence with their literature circle readings. As the class worked independently in their digital notebook, teachers pulled small groups of students to provide additional instruction and support for those that needed it and extend and challenge students that were showing mastery of the skill of finding relevant text evidence.
In 7th grade ILA, each recent week students have focused on a text as a group. As the week progressed, students would then read a text independently based on their reading level. Students were then placed in reading groups and received different articles and questions based on their needs!
In 8th grade ILA, students have been reading articles about the issue of student privacy to practice synthesizing information for the upcoming in-class debate. Students were asked to find a strong piece of evidence and be able to justify their selection. Teachers used this information to group students and provide additional instruction based on need!
