MESSAGE FROM THE PRIMARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
The Importance of Inquiry: A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
Education is no longer about memorizing facts or preparing students to pass tests. It is about fostering curiosity, encouraging exploration, and equipping learners with the tools they need to understand and navigate the world around them. At the heart of this transformation is the concept of inquiry-based learning, a teaching approach that places students' questions, ideas, and observations at the core of the learning process.
Why Inquiry Matters
Inquiry is the foundation of lifelong learning. When children are encouraged to ask questions and seek answers, they develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. They learn to approach challenges with curiosity and confidence, traits that are invaluable in today's rapidly changing world.
Moreover, inquiry cultivates a love for learning. By pursuing answers to their own questions, students experience the joy of discovery and develop a deeper connection to the subject matter. This intrinsic motivation is far more powerful than external rewards or pressures.
At BIS, inquiry is at the core of our teaching philosophy. Whether it's through project-based learning, classroom discussions, or hands-on experiments, we encourage students to explore their interests and take ownership of their learning.
For example, our recent STEAM Fest or upcoming Inquiry Days or even the morning assemblies each engagement enhances and showcases the incredible creativity and critical thinking of our students. By asking questions and seeking answers, they not only deepened their understanding but also inspired us with their curiosity and passion.
Parents play a vital role in fostering inquiry at home. Simple actions, like encouraging children to ask "why" and helping them find answers, can spark a lifelong love for learning. Exploring museums, reading books together, or even cooking can be opportunities for discovery and discussion.
As educators, we believe in creating a partnership with parents to nurture inquisitive minds. Together, we can ensure our children are not only prepared for exams but for life itself.
A Call to Curiosity
Let us celebrate the power of questions and the boundless potential of young minds. Together, let’s cultivate an environment where curiosity thrives and inquiry becomes the driving force of education.
With warm regards,
Ms. Manya Jain
