On Friday afternoon I was notified of a Lodi Middle School student who reported that an older white male driving a black pickup truck approached the student on Fairmont Ave on their way home from school on Thursday. The stranger yelled at the student to get in the car and then drove off. The student alertly speed-walked away from the vehicle.
Please remind your children to be extra vigilant if they are walking home from school and to use a buddy system.
Below are some additional safety tips for our students.
- If anyone bothers you while going to or from school, say no, then go, and tell a trusted adult as quickly as possible.
- If someone offers you a ride, say NO.
- Never leave school or go with someone you don't know. Plan with your parents first and check in with a trusted adult at school. If plans need to change have a school staff member help make contact with your parents to ensure your safety.
- If someone tries to take you somewhere, get away from them as quickly as possible, and yell "This person is trying to take me away!"
- Stay alert and aware of what is happening around you.
