The ARC Program
We want to extend our gratitude for all of the time you spend reading with your child. Your child's teacher likely discussed the ARC reading program at parent-teacher conferences because it's important that you understand your child as a reader.
ARC Level - If you are unsure of your child's ARC reading level, you can look on the spine of their ARC books, on your child's power goal/book diet paper or ask your child. Once you know your child's ARC level, you can use the chart below to determine the correlation between the ARC level and your child's current grade level.
Power Goal - Your child has a power goal, which is a specific reading goal that will change as your child grows as a reader. Ask your child about their goal and try to find ways to practice within their reading time at home. If you're unsure how to help, reach out to your child's teacher.
Book Selection - If you're looking to expand your library or need gift ideas for your child, the hook book list below gives some suggestions for each ARC level. If you're unsure whether or not a book or series would be appropriate for your child's current reading level, we'd be happy to help.
Reading at Home - All students in grades K5-4 have 15 minutes of reading homework every night and 5th graders have 30 minutes of reading homework each night. Depending on your child's age and reading level, you could read with your child, have your child read to you, ask your child questions about their book to promote engagement and comprehension, practice skills pertaining to their power goal, or allow your child to read in different places to keep reading fun. Please sign the reading log every night.
Thank you again for helping to promote a love of reading and an emphasis on literacy in all of our students. We couldn't do it without you.
